Group Class Basics + Rewards

Group classes are always a fun activity for me. I love working with multiple dogs and watching how the dogs and handlers work around distracting environments. My primary goals are keeping everyone safe and making sure it’s a fun experience for both dogs and people!

I found this video the other day and wanted to get it up here for you to see. The great thing about group lessons is that you can see the various drives and dynamics of the various dogs. It’s also a confidence builder for both dog and human to do this type of training.

In this class we are focussed on basics, but we add corrections and rewarding the dog. The key involved here is the motivation, which can be both a reward as well as a motivator. Your body language, your tone and your overall attitude plays a big part in the dog’s experience. I think this lesson really showcases that. It’s a very long training, over 45 minutes, but I think there are a lot of takeaways!

We focus on the more intermediate/ advanced aspects including: STAND, SIT and DOWN in motion, but mainly we focus on the overall attitude of the dogs in the class. We also touch on solid heeling and focus as well as a few other important aspects of training and the dog to human dynamic.

I hope you enjoy this lesson!
