Siggy Day 7 – Puppy Distractions + Focus

So this is Siggy’s 7th lesson and he’s about 16 weeks old here. I like to tell you this so you can see about what is fair to expect from your puppies.

All too often people expect way too much from puppies and this is unfair and damaging to the dog’s training as well as your relationship. At this point we’re building some duration in positions such as down, sit and stand and I’m having Yossi move a little to get the dog used to staying. We always want to do this with the dog on a platform, and you’ll see why in this lesson. It really helps the dog learn.

You can do it with a simple apple box, a table or a platform like I use here, check the Shop Page for this Klimb platform.

Once Siggy gets comfortable with this, we go to part 2 of the lesson. That is getting the Siggy to focus on his dad and his work, with a distraction like Goofy. You’ll see that I can only do this with a dog like Goofy who I can trust. Building safety for the puppy is critical, especially during this important phase. NEVER EVER introduce your puppy to a dog that isn’t safe!

Enjoy this lesson!
