Siggy Lesson 5 – Basics, Tug, Dogs and more

Welcome to day 5 with Siggy. As we continue on with the basics, we start to bring things together to keep Siggy interested and motivated. You’ll see we shape the heel and leg weaving together and put some motion exercises like DOWN into the game. I also introduce a spin off of the heel which can keep the dog really engaged to the handler. Lots of fun.

I also work on the GO TO command with a remote sit. It’s important that your dog know how to listen when they are away from you. For example, you want to be able to tell your dog to GO TO a place and then SIT on that place. We start to work on that today.

VERY INTERESTING with Siggy was that he had an issue playing tug with other people, not with Yossi, but with others. So we started, in this session, to break that down. The way to do that is by treating distance and more drive. I like using a flirt pole to do that. Luckily we had one around the house with a squeaky toy on it. Siggy really took to that. At some point I will do a complete video on Siggy’s tug evolution. It will be very interesting for everyone, especially people who have dogs with issues tugging.

I like to include in almost all of me sessions with Siggy and Max, some time around other dogs. I end today’s session with that as well.

*** REMEMBER, it’s not my goal to have a dog play with another dog, but rather to use self control and be responsive to their owners.

HIGH DRIVE DOGS REQUIRE A DIFFERENT APPROACH THAN LOW DRIVE DOGS – GIVE EACH DOG WHAT THEY NEED!
