Positive ONLY Training is a BAD Idea for Animal Shelters and will only lead to killing more dogs – most for unnecessary reasons. Using a balanced dog training approach, including the use of fair corrections, will help more dogs in shelters than the Positive Only Dog Training approach that so many trainers advocate.
I’ve worked with animal shelters for 12 + years and helped many transition to much higher LRR, live release rates for their dogs. I’ve done this by ensuring their dogs got structured training and the staff learned to know more about them.
In the 12 years I’ve been doing this, many trainers (positive only) have criticized me, but NONE have ever met me at a shelter to show me that their way is better.
