The last lesson I posted with Karl and Jerome was the beginning to introducing the ecollar to Karl. As I mentioned, Jerome had suffered a double stroke and was at risk of losing Karl. Jerome had lost the strength on one side of his body and controlling a big, strong dog like Karl was proving difficult.
Luckily we have the ability to utilize a tool like the ecollar and this tool will change everything for Karl and Jerome. We’re using the ecollar as a remote control to do what a leash pop would do, and with Jerome’s mobility impinged, this works beautifully. Watch this lesson and you’ll understand my joy.
I generally don’t use the ecollar to call a dog off of another dog, but in this situation there are a couple of reasons why I felt it important. Jerome doesn’t have the strength or speed to get to Karl if this should happen, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Karl doesn’t have any real issues with other dogs. So you might ask, why correct him at all? Because a dog like Karl could easily hurt another dog even in play, and that could prove disastrous for him.
This lesson will give you some great insight on how I use the ecollar as a tool to teach off leash walking and a few other great lessons. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
