I have a couple of general questions that I would love to hear your answers.

    1) What are your favorite bonding activities with your dog? It could be games, grooming, snuggling, training, or anything else. What is it that brings you and your dog closer together?

    2) What do you do to help your dog handle stress? What do you use as outlets for stress or ways to calm him and reduce the stress levels?

    Looking forward to your answers!

Our favourite bonding activities are training, going on walks and grooming and my son loves to snuggle with him even though our son is 14. So far, ours hasn’t had a lot of stress that we didn’t just try not to pay too much attention to so it wouldn’t become a thing. He’s only 13 months old and most of his stress is “what’s that new thing, it’s scary”

    1) favorite bonding is when we play fetch. it’s one of the most fun thing for my 1 year old Belgian Malinois. i can see it in his body language.

    2) when we go on walks and there’s a big truck that passes by that’s when he gets stressed. i usually just go on walking or when it’s too stressful for him i ask him to sit and let the truck pass us by, then say good boy, and go back walking. im not sure it’s the right way of doing it.

For my male, Dixon, he is a tug and fetch addict so we love to just go out in the yard and have fun. It always feels good to get out and engage with him.

My female, Maxy, is older and loves to walk. There’s not much more in my life that I look forward too other than taking her on a walk through the neighborhood.

I also love to take them out on the porch and relax, hand feed them, and brush them. I like to get something to drink and wear something comfortable as well. I encourage you to try it 👌

My favourite bonding activities would be massaging, fetch, training, and playing tug. If you asked my dog she’d probably say tug and back scratches. She has learned somewhere along the way how to ask me for a back scratch politely and as an obedient owner I comply. Yes, she has trained me well, lol.

For stressful situations I try to get her focused on me using the look command and create distance from what’s stressing her out to where it’s at a manageable level for her.

I love reading your answers! For Lance, massages, snuggles, and hikes have been the major bonding activities. In spite of his fears, he loves new adventures. And like you, Sharon, we are obedient owners when he comes over an asks for a butt scratch or massage. He is so polite and non-pushy about it! And he and my husband have conspired together to convince me that he truly does belong on the furniture!

For stress relief, it usually involves movement. He loves racing through the leaves in our yard making huge circles around us like the puppy zoomies (but he is 3) and going hiking on the mountain bike trails (as long as they aren’t too busy). If he is only slightly stressed, I can also help him with massage.

I was a big “no dog on the furniture” person and now I’m a sucker.

I love to snuggle my pup and really enjoy walking just her and I. My husband is not happy about the couch and he’s just going to have to get over it!

Our 9 month old Labrador Roman loves to sit up on my lap, lay back and have his ears scratched! He lets out a big sigh!

My 6 month old GSD and I love to bond while hiking, long walks, playing fetch and tug… and training of course!

He gets stressed when he’s not eating or doing one of the above activities! He’s a super chewer so indestructible balls/toys and chews keep him busy.

This ball is his new favorite and it just keeps me laughing.

My boy LOVES tug! He is so goofy about it and just always makes me feel close to him.

He also LOVES playing a find it game with my 6yo. He tugs with the toy with me for a minute then he outs and I give it to my daughter and him and I go to our back bedroom in a sit while we wait for her to say ready, then whenever I decide to release him he goes and sniffs it out and he brings it to me to tug again. It’s so fun to watch him sniff it out especially when he passes it then puts the brakes on to back up 😅

I truly love morning time with my “boys” 9yr old and 2yr old Huskies. My coffee, loading them in the car and heading to the park and letting them just enjoy being dogs. My 2yr old Shiloh loves tug and that truly brings out the kid in me and brings me such joy.
