Just want to thank you for name dropping shieldk9, I’ve been watching their videos as well as Roberts and they have been very helpful, also I’ve scheduled a private session with them to work on obedience and her interactions with my son. I’ll let you know how it goes!

The large breed formulas are meant to support growth , bone , joint health etc, having added glucosamine, chondrine (sp?) etc. But I think the nutrience formula you are on has those too.

I should mention the raw food I tried was “back2raw” which is prepackaged frozen that apparently has recommended ratios etc. I tried the ” complete” version that also had a bit of veg\fruit , they also have a basic with just meat, I tried 1 meal raw and I kibble then all raw , and it was not good ! But I do know people who had no issue with it so not sure where I went wrong.

I feed my cat nutrience grain free (Canadian here too!) , I looked at their dog food but after analyzing went with Wellness Complete large breed (not grain free). I also received similar advice, while cats are carnivores dogs are not, I was told unless there is a specific reason (allergy\intolerance) no need to go grain free. Also my breeder was not feeding grain free and did 1 meal raw and 1 kibble for adults. I did try switching to raw but had terrible experience (runs for a couple weeks) so gave up and went back to kibble and she does just fine on it. Also on advice from breeder I’ve been feeding adult food from beginning, no puppy formula.

I think your schedule sounds just fine. When my pup was about that age I had the same thoughts , I was worried I was doing too much as I had heard about the “5 min rule” but it didnt seem to fit. I was doing about the same amount of walks as you, I asked my breeder and she said working line pups would need a bit more and that 2 30 min walks /day would be fine. Try to limit sidewalk/concrete walking. I agree you don’t want to tire or exhaust them, I think Robert talks about that, you want to put them in their crate with them still in the fun mindset and wanting more.

Thanks every much for your reply, much appreciated. I am backing up with her martingale , do not want her getting loose! I will try Roberts modification, I think it was a tad tight before but maybe a tad loose now. Thanks again!

Per my breeders guidance I started out feeding my GSD 1 cup kibble 3x a day (from 8 weeks). She is now 4.5 months and I’m still feeding 3x day but will probably transition soon to 2x. She still gets a cup at each meal but also additional kibble (1\2 c – 1 c) sometimes treats, banana, peanut butter in Kong etc. throughout day with training \ rewards. So I too am wondering if this is appropriate ? She is now 37 lbs and slim but not scrawny. As for water, always available (except in early days I did cut off around 7pm until morning)

Lol. That is exactly how I got my pup to go in her crate! Throw a piece of kibble in and in she would go … Now 7 months I just say “go your crate” and she goes in , but does still expect a piece of kibble to follow! I also still feed her meals in her crate which I think helps with positive association.
