Tug troubleshooting

Has anyone got any suggestions on how to stop my dog going for the handles, the rope part or basically any part of the tug he isn’t supposed to bite? I’ve tried multiple tug tools and my cane corso is adamant on biting the part that’s not supposed to be. Thanks!

Robert has addressed it a couple of times. I do not recall if it was on lessons or AMAs. Perhaps someone will jump in. But I would search the lessons. The 2021 AMAs are also searchable.

This afternoon, just after I mentioned that I did not remember Robert’s advice on tugging… LOL

Good thing there was some nail behind it 🤪. This was the adult female. I hyped her up with 2 or 3 misses and she went a bit crazier. Totally my fault.

Did not hurt nearly as much as the puppy giving me a bloody lip for the 3rd time as he tried to engage me in play 😛

He is such a sweetheart. 15 weeks, and he went downstairs and opened the doggy door and did his business outside for the first time. I’m sure there will be mishaps, but he did daddy proud today.

Thinking of it, what she did was to anticipate that I was going to pull again in the same direction. Doh 🙄

Ellie have you watched all the tug videos? I’m pretty sure Robert has addressed your question.

Clicking on this extremely long link should filter out tug videos – https://robertcabral.com/all-lessons/?current_page=1&search=tug&type=all&order=desc&posts_per_page=12¤t_page=1&orderby=recent&filter-categories=all&filter-instructors=all&view=grid

You have to go back and watch the lesson again, I would think you would know better.

That is really great for 15 weeks.

Try cutting the strings of your toy.

Also, if you have a puppy/young dog, use a softer tug. Your dog could be sticking to the rope because it is easier to hold (and might indicate that the tug is too hard at the moment)
