E-collar Question

After watching the videos of the e-collar course I am a little bit confused on how to train with the collar correctly. Robert starts by finding the lowest level (I’m assuming this is the shock part) the dog responds to and then says the beep or vibration stays the same no matter what level you put the collar on. So, when he uses it for the conditioning is he using the shocking part or the vibration part of the collar in the very beginning?

Robert’s general use of the collar as a correction tool has the collar at the lowest level the dog notices, and is the equivalent of a pop on a leash. My dogs often shake their head slightly a couple of times when it is applied. Robert does not use the vibration or tone modes, though he mentions others do.

Do you have the Garmin Delta Sport XC collar? If so there is the M-C-C setting that has a low level stim on the bottom button and a higher level stim on the middle button. I use the bottom button like a leash pop to get my dog’s attention. For a more serious situation the middle button does the trick without having to change anything on the transmitter. The top button gives a single high level shock that I don’t use.

William, I don’t understand your question. Basically I use CMM and only use the C (top) button. I don’t like momentary corrections, I prefer to determine the amount of time the dog should receive the stim. I find it more fair to the dog that way. Basically, the collar is set up that the middle button (with nipple) would produce a higher correction than the lower one.

I only use stim, don’t use vibration or tone.

Me too. My reply wasn’t a question. Just stating my preference which seems to be the same as yours.
