Hi Robert! I’ve been training my Malinois since he was 2 months old — he’s 5 months now. I realize I made the mistake of always training with food visible in my hand, and now he only focuses on the food, not on me. If he doesn’t see food in my hand, he won’t do anything. Even when I place the food behind me, he just watches my hands and every little movement.

I train with his food three times a day, and I’d love to fix this. Do you have any advice on how to shift his focus more toward me and less on the food? Thank you! Come on.

Hey Robert, thanks for all you do. Our 6 month old gsp/mal mix is super smart/sweet and wants to learn/be a good dog. We’ve had her since 9 weeks and have worked every day with her. My issue is she’s smarter than me and blows through the training leaving me just repeating things she knows (we have a 13 yo terrier and 2 little kids so the distractions are there for training at home which helps the real world training) I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have a lot of experience with dogs but keep finding myself short of filling training sessions for her mental stimulation

Hi Robert, I’m asking on behalf of my daughter, she has an 18 month old female Great Dane and a 6 Year old female collie mix. Recently the Great Dane has started attacking the older one, it was so bad the other day that the collie had to be rushed into the vet. Now it is like the Great Dane is hunting her. Do you have any idea as to why this is happening and what she could do to sort it out. Rehoming will be a last resort. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

I have a close to 3 months golden retriever puppy who has been to the vet twice in the last month over food poisoning. He is not fully vaccinated and hasn’t been out for walks but keeps trying to pick and eat things off the ground in my garden. Is there a way to stop this costly behaviour from happening? Perhaps a way to hold the leash so stop him from having access to things on the ground or any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Mr Cabral I have watched at least 5 of your videos on Aggression/Reaction toward other dogs. I watched Max, Ziggy, and Sonny, of the three Sonny was the closest to Heidi. They both reacted the same way. My question is that you didn’t say what collar to use. I have a Martin gale, a fur saver, and a prong collar. Heidi doesn’t really respond to the fur saver or the Martingale collar, so is it ok to keep her on the prong while working with her on dogs, people, and cars? Would it be wise to take her to the dog park to work with her on other dogs–not near them just close? Thanks for the help.

My 2 year old intact Malinois (70%)and 30% Podenco (spanish sight hound) mix has in general good obedience and does ok in igp. We live in a very urban area with many dogs. On the leash he is very reactive towards other males. Without a leash he is relaxed. 2nd issue, he is very overstimulated most of the time and wants to sniff every 10ft. I tried to get his focus by just feeding him outside, but that only works as long as i have the food and the food is better than kibble. How do i get more focus and engagement and more relaxed dog encounters? Dankeschön, lieber Robert.

May 5 1/2 M.O. GSP acts crazy when I’m connecting her leash to her collar, and today she was extra nutty. She will lay on her back and mouth my hand (which she usually doesn’t do)- just way too excited to the extend that it takes atleast a minute most times. Because I was getting scratched up and mouthed too much, I laid her down on her side, and held her snout and her body down until she calmed down a bit. I am too old to be wrestling her, and I don’t want her to continue doing this. Do you have any tips and/or videos that you can direct me to?

Hello Robert, Our 9 month year old male Malinois lunges and aggresses our 12 year old Labrador at home. When outside in the garden, there are many moments of play but as soon as both are inside, my Malinois seems to want to go for the kill. This is making our family life a nightmare, I now separate both dogs, which makes life way less enjoyable for everyone. Any advice?  Thanks & Greetings from France, – Joanna

Hi Robert. I started using a grinder for the nail trimming on my mal right after we got him about 3 months ago, and he was ok with it as long as I was distracting him with a nice bone. The last 2 times when I attempted to trim his nails he started pulling his feet away and even squealed at one time, without me even using the grinder, I never trimmed into the quick. He is now 7 months old and I don’t want to fight with him trimming his nails. Any suggestions?

Y’all make it look so easy!  My boy will do ANYTHING but put his feet on the target.  Both your video and a few I’ve found on youtube have roughly the same info, once the dog will ‘get on his brick’ but lordy!  My guy will do anything to avoid putting his feet on something other than what he sees as ‘the real floor or ground’.  I thought I’d start with a larger target to make it easier?  But some advice on how to teach ‘both front feet on here get you treats’ would be a LOT of help, because we’re both very frustrated right now and I don’t want to keep training something that will frustrate him.
