Hi Robert. My 4 mo Border Terrier tries to take absolutely everything into his mouth…leaves, shells, pebbles, bark, every plant we walk by. I don’t want to constantly correct him on walks, but obviously can’t have him eating anything. Sniffing around isn’t an issue with him, it’s his sight. It’s windy here and anything flying around is instant game, which is expected given the breed. He’s very smart, confident and well bonded, but very stubborn. Letting a “puppy just be a puppy” would be great, but safety is first. What do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Max- 3yr male and 8yr male Catahoula Finn. Exiting house Max hassles Finn- barking snapping in face and 2x it’s escalated into fight They’re good the rest of the time I’m having Max sit and reward while Finn goes out first, but it feels just like distraction is there a better way ? Max is also agitated at gate esp when guest arrives we live very remote so this is not daily event. We use leash at gate and have treat for guest to offer and it goes well but gotta be a better way. Otherwise max really good boy

I am expecting a new Doberman pup in July and I have been going through your 30 day course with Shmoo. I really like the course and will try and do a lot of what you did with the new pup. My question is how do I get this new pup into competition obedience? I’ve inquired with some local trainers about getting some help but never get the answers I’m looking for. Everyone just wants you to sign up for this class or that class. I think I need to get him into some types of group class just for the social aspect but how do I get him in the ring?

I have an LA County shelter dog. He is a 65-lb working line GSD estimated at 1.75 years. I’ve had him for four months. I have many issues to address one of which is his anti-social behavior with dogs. Since I’ve had him, he has approached females but is too aggressive and tries to mount right away. He gets nasty quickly with other dogs (wearing a muzzle). He doesn’t know how to socialize but is now normally neutral towards dogs on walks — a big change. He doesn’t sniff rumps, etc. What can I do to teach him to socialize/play with other dogs?

I have a 1yr old Kelpie girl. We’re in Switzerland, spend time in the countryside & hiking. She’s doing well at basic obedience but her herding instincts are nuts and we often pass by cows. She ran off once at 5 months old and put 10 cows in a pack before I could catch up. Needless to say I can’t have her herding random cows, plus she might get hurt by cows, or worse a livestock guardian dog. On a leash she will go crazy and lunge at them; I can’t correct her successfully (bar grabbing her by the scruff and pinning her down). Advice? Would taking her to a herding course help or make it worse?
