My 2-year-old, 16 kg neutered male mixed breed became reactive to intact males after two frightening encounters. He now barks at all intact males, even dogs he knew as puppies once they reach 7–8 months old, though he is otherwise social with dogs. One of those intact males became his biggest trigger after a recent off-leash attack while my dog was on leash. Is it realistic to improve that relationship, or is avoidance better? Either way, I want to stop the barking at intact males in general and help him stay neutral around that specific dog.

Hi Robert, I’ve met you at Golds gym and wanted to say thank you for your in person time and advice. I found a 4 month Malinois on the streets of Santa Monica last year. He was taken to the shelter however was not adopted after a month so I went and adopted him. I’m writing to inquire the cost of a 1:1 session. Luca has grown to be 80lbs and is a very strong dog. He is not able to regulate his excitement on walks, car drives, or in public. What this looks like is excessive pulling on the prong, gentle lead, and ignoring the e-collar when he sees other dogs, squirrels, or running children.

I just recently, in the past 3 months started a new diet with all my dogs, I have 5. I went from kibble to home cooked food. There was a specific reason, my oldest dog had a growth/tumor of some kind on her front leg. In reading about what you are feeding, I know people don’t all feed the same, some of these proteins are extremely expensive so I tend to mainly use ground turkey and chicken organ meats (hearts and livers). Have you worked with a nutritionist? Im struggling to fond a nutritionist in my area and one that I contacted didn’t do virtual appointments. Do you recommend anyone?, Thanks

Hope everything is good with the Cabral’s My kangal boy is getting bigger, he I getting close to 110 pounds. Hes still a sweet boy. Often grownup dog show aggressive behavior towards him. Luckily he doesn’t react and I am also able to read it and avoid a situation. Maybe the grownup dogs se the energy and size and get nervous about how to handle him. Like,, how am I going to handle a puppy like that if he starts something. I would probably get nervous around a super big toddler or young kid. With that kind of obvious power and energy. What’s your thinking about this?

I have a 4 year old Doberman and when we take her out in public getting her focus is nearly impossible. She wants nothing to do with treats but she will sit in heel position 50% of the time. She is usually very food driven and when we work in the yard at home this is not usually a problem. Looking for tips to gain focus in public.

Hey Robert, in Fall 2024 I suddenly lost my soul dog, my Malinois, Loki. He was my first dog and I put countless hours into training him. He was obedient, non-destructive, and we had an inseparable bond. He did have fear aggression, handling sensitivity, and resource guarding with people other than me. He came from a K9 line and was cheaper. I want another Malinois. My girlfriend is a cat person, never been around a mal, and we plan to marry and have kids. How can I choose and raise one that’s tolerant of affection and safe with family? Also better to get one before or after kids?

I have a year an a half old Malinois who is great at doggie play days at one of our local trainers but when she’s on a leash she reacts. She’s great on a leash when there’s no distractions and listens to all my commands and looks at me while walking for direction but that all goes out the window when she sees other dogs and some people.

I live on a small community (Long Beach peninsula) where everyone knows one another, the dogs know one another, they’re all very well behaved, play together, etc. I don’t have a yard (most don’t), the beach is 8 feet away and has always been my substitute. It’s not crowded and if i want my own free space it’s not a problem. At what point or age can I consider introducing my dog to the neighborhood dogs I know? Squatting with the pup, holding him as you did in your 30 day course. Not planning on letting him free with any yet. It’s a 5lb 9 wk old Border Terrier. Same question–friends/neighbors?

What do you recommend I do to stop my dogs (14 mos. Mal mix (f), 10 mos GS mix (m)) from flipping out, barking and growling at dogs, people, bikes, etc when we are driving in the car? This is new behavior, since I got the 10 mos old 5 months ago . He is also biting at her and flipping out whenever he sees another dog when we are walking. When walking she walks first, he’s on my right, she’s on my left, and I pin him when he freaks out. It doesn’t stop him the next time. He’s shaking so I believe it’s not aggression. My SUV is not big enough to crate them both. She’s a big girl (tall). Thanks!
