My Mal is lighting fast at tracking, nailing, and swallowing flies – not ideal, but no major problem. But now that bees and wasps are out, she’s missed a few by millimeters. Could be catastrophic if she nails one. Other than having Benadryl on hand, how can I discourage her of this risky habit? (She’s comfortable with ecollar). Thank you!

Our Belgian Mal (13mos) sleeps in our bedroom at night in a crate with our 11 year old German Shepherd who does not sleep in a crate. He has always been content in the crate at night. Both go to bed about 7-7:30 , we come in later. Recently when we come to bed the Mal, who has been asleep, starts barking and whining. We ignore it and after a (long) while he calms down and goes to sleep. This has gone on for 2-3 nights. Any suggestions on what we should do?

Hello, I was house sitting for a friend who told me she had a neutral dog but when introducing him to my dog that was totally not the case. The 5 month old golden jumped on my then neutral 1y o dutchie, totally freaked her out and my dutchies hackles went up and she started reactive barking/nipping at this golden. I’m so frustrated and furious that this happened because my dutchie has been great with other dogs. And now I’m afraid she’s traumatized. What would be your next steps? Please help.

We’re fostering a 1+ y/o female Doberman. She’s very sweet and cuddles with family often. She’s being rehomed because prior owner couldn’t care for her. We have introduced her to others by crating until calm. Yesterday she met new someone and later calmly stood across them on the couch. After a few moments of petting she growled briefly. She didn’t display teeth. My wife redirected. Is this concerning? Advice on addressing? She has stood across family members before but it was seen as affection.

How do I correct certain bad manners/ behaviors? My puppy tries to jump on the bed, couch, trash (can’t reach them yet, but if I don’t correct the jumping, she soon will)? Aside from the normal puppy biting and mouthing, she nips/ lunges at you, which I assume is due to her breed (never had a herder/working dog before, so this is new to me). How do I teach her we aren’t cattle? Lastly, when she finds an item that is forbidden she plays keep-away- she KNOWS its a no-but mischievously runs away.

Hi Robert, I was wondering how much sleep a 6 month old Malinois should be sleeping. She has a lot more energy than other breeds and although she will calm down on her own and nap, she is easily woken during the day. (Cat walks by, mailman etc) I’m wondering how much sleep she needs each day.

Hi, my best friend of 15 years recently had a baby and has dubbed me the godmother. She understands that I have 3 dogs. What would the safest way be to go about introducing them to a young child/infant? I do fully intend on putting them in the crate the first few visits until they get used to him. But what else can I do to ensure a smoother encounter? I personally don’t want to bring him around till his communication skills begin developing, she understands as well (He’s 4 months) thanks!

First, Lance laid down relaxed while chewing a beef bone and licking the marrow for the first time yesterday after we followed your advice and started with chicken backs. Even those were stressful to him at first, but we kept at it and then introduced marrow bones. It worked! Next, when I do a “down on recall”, Lance downs eventually but continues too far after the command before doing so. How can I get him to down more quickly? If he is going away from me, his response to Down is fairly quick.

My JRT is 7 months old, I rescued her at 9wks sold. I’m having trouble training her bc she eats anything she can find off the ground mostly rocks and pebbles. Leave it command works when she wants to do it. How do I fix this behavior problem and have a better relationship with her when we constantly fight as I’m trying to get stuff out of her mouth? We struggle on walks, something we can’t go on walks. I can train well inside the house but not outside…not even in the back yard. Thanks.

How long do I need to crate train my puppy? When I let him out he still bites stuff , not as much.

We had a 1 year old cockerpoo returned to our rescue yesterday for biting all members of the family whilst on the sofa. On every occasion the person was already sat on the sofa and then the dog jumped up and apparently sought affection before biting them without warning. The dog was seen to guard food here in rescue but it was seen as manageable. Have you known dogs to guard sofas in this manner? They were not trying to move the dog only stroking him. Thanks
