Recently I was speaking with a person that says that all malinois need bite work to be happy.
I don’t do that because I’m not a trainer and we do agility, the person told me because my malinois is not so intense she is not ok.
So is it true that they need to be that intense wile working or I did something wrong?
Does it affect her confidence?

Dear Robert, We have a 7 month old GSD who is really mouthy. His adult teeth are all in and his mouthing is painful, especially for my daughter (11). The puppy treats her like a litter mate. How should I correct this behavior? We redirect the mouthing to a tug to satisfy his need to bite. How do we teach him bite inhibition?

Hi, what is your opinion on behavioral medication? My 18m M Great Dane had a traumatic experience with desex went to hospital for a week due to kidney damage. He was initially friendly with vet staff but snapped became aggressive when they were trying to give him needle. Since returning home he is on edge and on walks appears alert and unrelaxed, reactive at noises, easily startled. Can medication be a tool to help us continue our training and exposure in public without him reacting? We also work with regularly with a balanced trainer who will assess him first but I’d like to know your opini.

Love you videos! I adopted a rescue 3 month gsd mix a month ago. So Smart focused and energetic but concerned she is part Belgian malinois. I am 60 and wondering if I am the right dad for it moving forward into my years and slowing down myself…should I keep training and see what happens or to find out or maybe find a more active owner to match? I see myself training the dog to walk it in the city 3 times a day and play with at other times. I live near an elementary school and a neighborhood with lots of dogs. Have had gsds for 25 years…

For the past 5 weeks I have been teaching my 9 month old golden hold. She can perform the hold from a sit, down, or stand on both the table and the ground now and can hold different objects. She can switch between positions while holding and waits for the “out” command to drop it in my hands but if she is asked to take a step she will attempt to spit the dowel out. What can I do to teach her she has to move while holding the object, not just hold it when static? Have tried using the leash and holding her jaw while taking a step but either won’t budge or tries to spit it out with first step.

Hi Robert, On January 1st, my 2 year old labrador and I were almost hit by a speeding car while crossing the street on a crosswalk. My dog was in a heel next to me, and I had to jump and pull my dog to prevent us from getting hit. It was stressful. Fast forward to last week, and I have noticed him cowering and getting anxious when fast/loud cars drive by while on our walks. He also tried to run and then cowered when I made a sudden movement to avoid glass on the sidewalk a few days ago. I am unsure of how to help him through this. He is an amazing dog and this feels like such a set-back.

Our 1yo doodle rescue is SUPER high energy, with no manners/regulation. He is reactive. Sent him to a b&t with a ecolr trainer. Good reviews and Jasper learned amazing obedience. He is still reactive. Trainer said “don’t ever met other dogs, go to dog parks, leave him alone with ne one else”. He is such a sweet boy, but when he sees a dog, even with a prong and ecolar, he’ll lunge and bark, and insta down, to avoid correction while barking n growl/whining. When we asked the trainer, he say “CRANK Collar to 100” Really? must be a better way. What would you suggest as next steps?

I have a working line 5.5 month old GSD. He’s been well socialized, and generally is indifferent or loves people. I took him out to the front yard to potty yesterday morning and a kid was starting to walk by the front of the house. My dog stared for a while then barked rapidly, hackles up and ran back. This sounds like fear barking, do I need to worry about him being reactive to kids or is this behavior sometimes normal? I am really hoping that my dog is not reactive towards people/kids and hence spent a lot of time socializing him when I brought him home. Hope you have a good weekend.

Robert and Janet, howdy!
Our 7 month-old female Border Terrier knows “down” for a down-stay. She does well holding the stay for brief periods of time, but often when she is given the command “down”, she takes her time getting into the down position. It sometimes seems that she is “considering the request” and then grudgingly complies.
Any tips for getting her to execute a down a bit more quickly and crisply?
Thanks in advance for the help,

Robert

I have taken a step back with my 3 year old Dobermann and reintroduced a prong collar during our walks. It’s almost magic as just having it on has her walking perfectly. The only issue is being a different sensation around her neck has her regularly stopping to scratch. What would be your recommendation moving forward as I don’t want this to become a habit.

Hi Robert. I recently purchased an E collar for my seven month old Mal. I haven’t used it yet other than letting her wear it around for the last week and a half. I was watching some of your tutorials, one with Joe and the other with Rio, and I had a question about the different styles of E collar training with Joe, you were suggesting the ‘no, pause, stim, dog turns, release stim when dog looks, come  method and advised Joe not to stem on the COM command. However, with Rio, it looks like the gentleman was steaming on the come command. Can you clarify for me which one would be the best option.
