I have a 13 week old female Mal. The biggest issue I’m having right now is her jumping and biting on her leash while we are walking. She has her moments that she does real good. I’ve attempted bringing a toy with me to redirect the biting but still seems to an issue. Also have left a lighter leash on her.

Hey Robert, thanks for helping me with jumping issue from last week, he gets a lot better. However, for past few months my one year old malinois started to bark a lot in some specific situations. He barely barks at home, but when i train him he barks a lot. For example, when i hide tug and tell he to do command, he will bark at me while he’s doing the command. It doesn’t sound aggressive but a lot of excitement. I don’t know if i should fix this, because when he follows the command sometimes he still tries to put his mouth on tug or bark at me. Thank you!

Hi Robert, I’ve been working with my 7 mos. old GSD puppy to bring her drives way up by using flirt pole, then asking her to drop it and sit. She does well with this exercise now but it isn’t translating to when the cat is around and she wants to go after him. Seems she isn’t hearing me when he is around and her drives just seem to escalate way up. Is there any other training to work on to help with those times? Or just continue with the methods I’ve been working and give them more time? I also do reward her when she is calm and he is nearby but that doesn’t last for very long. Thanks

Hi Robert! I’m sure this isn’t the best avenue to ask this but I had to take a shot. My wife and I own a training business in Aiken, SC. We both love your content and take a similar approach to training. She has been working with one of our dogs to become her next service dog after losing her last one. She was so excited to share your podcast about service dogs with me. You are definitely a role model to her. I know you’re a busy person but I was hoping it would be possible for you to have a brief video chat with her. It would mean the world. Please consider, it would be life changing for her.

I live in Western Oklahoma, looking for a dog trainer. I cannot find one in my area. Do you have somebody you recommend? Belgian malinois (male 8 months)

Greetings Robert and Janet! Hope you guys are doing great. We had a tubal ligation fail resulting in 7 pups. The birth was complicated. We had to do an emergency c-section. We lost 5 of the 7. Two female Rottweiler babies survived and are thriving. Question: What are things we can do in their first 10 weeks to better prepare the pups for the world? Thanks!!

7m female malinois. We live on a quiet property, where she can run freely, with 2 houses. The neighbors who live at the other house aren’t around often. When they or guest do come down the driveway or are walking around the property Mal goes crazy barking and pulling the slip lead. A trainer I work with is having me stand infront of her, face her, tell her to sit and then correct with a no, until she sit and stays. Not working so far. She will bark and try to climb around me agresively until they go inside or leave. Alerts are good but How can I train her to settle without meeting them?

Hi Janet and Robert. It’s been very cold here in Arizona these past 2 months and Maggie’s thick coat is proof. I still take her for an hour walk in the desert every morning at 7am. She wears a jacket that is thin but reflective. My question is should I use her regular grooming comb or the heavy duty one that gets to her undercoat. She is hardly shedding — if that’s even possible with a GSD. I’m hoping her thick coat will be keeping her warm enough so that we can keep up our am walks.

I currently have a GSD x Mal mix (5 yrs/Male) and a GSD (10yrs/Female). I’ve done my research on different rescue groups and have started the application process for MAD Rescue. They have a 15 week GSD x Mal puppy that I’m interested in adopting. Both my other dogs I got at 8-9 weeks old and know it’s an important stage I may have missed with the 15 week old puppy at the rescue. What is the top 3 tips you might offer adopting a nearly 4 month old puppy and how to introduce them to my current pack? Thank you!

Hi Robert. I have two female dogs (corgis) at home. One five year old (spayed) and the other is a year old (intact). The younger female dog likes to resource guard over food and space. Most of the time they know how to coexist and sometimes they play with each other. But in a span of a week they had fights over space. Both of them will not back down from a fight. I was wondering how best to deal with these types of fights at home? Can they be prevented or is it left to management?

I have a 13 week old Border Collie/Blue Heeler. I’m wondering when is an appropriate time to correct biting and jumping. He mouths my husband and I but he basically attacks my 11 year old daughter. He jumps on everyone and the gate we use for him during free time. I’m concerned about building a relationship with him and also having unrealistic expectations for a puppy. I would love him to stop mouthing, biting and jumping but when is it appropriate to correct these.

I live in a high parvo area and my vet recommended I let my puppy use the bathroom on a concrete patio in my backyard because I haven’t owned my home long, so she pulled a lot as a young puppy while I tried to keep her on this little patio. I have been working on this, but she still pulls some. I have a shoulder injury from jiu jitsu and the pulling aggravates it. I asked my trainer about using a prong, but she recommended we wait until after her fear periods are over. Is this BS? My puppy is a 5 1/2 month old working line GSD, she’s dominant and confident. What do you think? Thanks so much!

Hello Robert, Can you maybe advise how to best deal with the aggression of our 12 week puppy – Dutch Sh. towards other dogs? He is also suspicious towards people, but this is getting better. With dogs he starts barking when he sees them, We tried a couple of times to get him close but it mostly finished with the escalation. Even when I approached and pet the other dog. This did not help – the other dogs were not aggressive at all. Should we do it from now on from the distance or keep on approaching the other dogs? What is best strategy here – Next week we start the dog kindergarten, but I doubt

What do you think about head collars?

Hi Robert I have a two-year-old malinois shelter rescue that is triggered by certain sounds and cowers when she hears them such as a microwave beep or other type of electronic beeping sound or when I open it a bottle Like a bottle of Corona. I’ve had her for approximately A year and these reactions have intensified over the last few weeks. What would be the best way to build her confidence with these sounds?  Thank you for your time.

Rachael

We rescued a Belgian pup, and then brought her mom home 3 weeks later from the shelter. Best way to introduce in this instance? They are currently separated but mom is low growling through the door.

Hello, Robert- I am a new member here, and so far, I am very much enjoying your lessons as we prepare for the arrival of our next dog. We currently have a mix breed rescue, roughly 6 yrs old. She sleeps in a crate each night with no issues. At the end of March we will be getting another dog, an 8 week old male Belgian Tervuren. Would you recommend his crate be in the same room, or in a different location? I do not want to stress either dog out (or be kept up at night), and want to be sure they adjust well to each other. Many thanks, Jay Keep up the good work!
