last week i modified my ecollars so that they are tightened with a bungee cord like you show in your video. but I’m having a problem with my dog because he has very thick, longish fur. he also hates having the back of his neck touched (because he hates when i put on flea medication) so every time i try to press the release clip to untighten the bungee cord he won’t sit still and i end up pulling at his fur which makes him hate it even more. do you have any suggestions to make it easier to remove?

First I want to thank you for guiding me in raising Ellee, my 21 mo lab/ cane corso mix……she is developing into a solid companion for my wife and I.

I am wondering if there are specific training programs for dogs with physical limitations( missing limbs caused by trauma or otherwise)…… I am wintering in Colorado and have noticed a few and thought they and their owners could benefit from a structured program designed specifically for their dog…… I thought you would be great for this cohort.

How does spaying a dog that’s nervous in certain situations (loud traffic, other noise) affect them? Do they get more anxious in general? I grew up in Germany where neutering dogs is illegal unless there is a medical reason or breeding cannot be controlled. Now I’m in the UK and vets push for neutering from 8 months old. I’ve talked to a German vet about the physical downsides of spaying, but I wonder if you could offer your view from a training/behavioral perspective? Thank you.

Thank you Robert for your video classes’ and Q&A sessions. Much appreciated. Having a BM, 1.5 yrs young, doing fine in all day obedience. After 1 yr she was fine with the roaming goats in our area and she was free around the house when we were outside.

Butt-headed by a goat, injuries around eye, stitches and cone. Now on a leash because when meeting goats now she is very angry and ready to go after them instead of being afraid.

Is rattlesnake avoidance training an option ?

Thank you, Chris.

Good morning.my 1 yr GSD Ripley and I Went for walk in woods she is always off leash. This morning a jogger surprised us and Ripley ran up to her barking, fur up and sat in front of her. the lady said oops went around and kept running I said here Ripley she came and we continued playing with a stick. Then she took off after lady again not barking or anything this time. I said hey! Here with mommy she came back. I put her on leash and walked for awhile. How would you have handled this? Thank u

To pet or not to pet is my question. I have seen my yr old Gsd extremely stressed when people came to pet him, have seen him enjoy it at times. But he has over excitability issues and sometimes lunges at people who want to meet him & get frustrated barking bcz I won’t let go when he is in that lunging mode. Over the couple of months we have nearly got rid all of his anxious reactivity to people. My goal is total people neutrality. Would not let people pet him ever better or worsen these issues.

Thanks Robert, When you say to give a biting puppy (3 mo old Malinois) a timeout instead of correcting, what’s the right way to do so? If I put him in the crate in that moment, he may associate the crate with a negative experience. Being in an apartment, I also need to prevent barking, especially while in the crate. Do you have suggestions for this? And, if I release him 10 seconds after he stops barking in the crate, will he still associate the release as a reward for the bark? Wait longer?

Hi Robert, my 7 month female GSD is a different dog when she sees her dog friends, especially when my sons are with them. she lunges, barks, and pulls leash like crazy – she wants to play. I have to use all my strength to control her (grab her collar & give ” quiet” “sit ” commands. It usually takes a good 10-15 min to calm her down. I let her go to her dog friends after she “sit”, “quiet” and “wait”. Am I doing the right thing? How do I control this? Any suggestions on dog reactive training?

Hello! I’m looking to be ready for a Mali around Oct 2022. I’ve been looking at shelter dogs (MAD & ABMR) and I’ve also spoken to several breeders in my 250 mile radius. Of course the breeders want me to buy a dog from them and many have told me not to adopt from a shelter as I’m potentially getting someone else’s problems, and that I may not know the history of the dog, ie, whether it’s been abused etc. What is your opinion? and puppy (<1yr) vs adult dog? Thank you Love your work as always! Kim

Midnight is our new rescue GSD (age 8).We basic-train daily. She integrated well with our other dogs and 2 dog-savvy cats but can get overstimulated by the cats: She’ll be on place, then suddenly start chasing one of the cats playfully (no aggression). We use leave it, come, and place in response, with some progress. Are we missing something important in how we’re handling this? Thanks.

My puppy is a 14 week GSD. Before I found your content I was stupid and corrected him too harshly/frequently on our walks. I was correcting him as if he was a full grown dog. I did not give him time to just acclimatize to the smells, sounds, and sights of being outside before moving into corrections. He will leave the house but is a bit nervous of leaving the house and is not loving going for walks and no interest in food outside the house. How can I reverse this? Many thanks, Ryan

I can probably answer my own question so it may be confirmation I’m after. I have a high drive 18 month old Doberman who needs an abundance of exercise. We play fetch and tug off leash in a large fully fenced park. She is fantastic and obedient UNTIL on occasions these small low flying birds appear and her prey drive takes effect. Recall goes completely out the window. Do we go back to the long line and correcting her if she begins to focus on the birds ?

How many cups of food should my active 12 month old, 60 pound Malinois be eating a day? We are giving her two cups in the morning and two cups in the late afternoon. I was looking at your store and see that the keto dog food that you show says 1 1/2 cups a day for the size of my dog. I have two 60 pound dogs and think I could not be able to switch to an expensive food, but if I feed less and assume higher quality then maybe it would all average out. What do you feed, and how much a day?
