Hi Robert. I wrote earlier this week regarding my puppy biting my ankles/achilles sometimes on walks. 99% or the walk was perfect, then wham…he gets me. I was bleeding, frustrated, raised my voice, stepped on his leash and totally lost my cool when I first wrote you. If you haven’t answered that question on video, just disregard it. I’m a bit embarrassed. A time-out or two works fine at home, but not sure how to correct something like that outside. Thanks again for all that you do and sorry to hear about your home. I know 4 or 5 people that lost theirs as well.

We have just taken on a 3yr old German Shepherd. He was a scent dog at a gold mine, but something happened to him at work and now he is scared of everything and everyone. Paces around in circles, does not know how to interact with anyone or other dogs. He is very big and very strong. We live on a farm with lots of space and 4 other dogs. He jumps up on you all the time. He stands taller than me when he jumps up. How do I help him find himself again. He is such a gentle kind dog when you can get him to relax. He does not realise how big he is and I think is still a bit of a puppy at heart. Help

Hi Robert, a year ago I adopted a Dutch shepherd, now she is 22 months. She is great. Since sept. last year she lives in our outdoor kennel because the health issues of my husband. In the morning when I go outside to let her potty and take a walk, she always barks at me. I don’t know how to make it clear I don’t like her barking. She is glad to see me and wants to play, but how can I make it clear to not bark. Does it make sense to walk away and just return the moment she stops barking? We didn’t teach her a command to be quiet, because we don’t know how to teach her the be quiet command.

What is the best way to approach a behavioral assessment in a small/under-resourced rural shelter of 10K people? Should I do this as a trainer and here is the context.

CONTEXT: I’m a trainer donating time to just build trust, focus, engagement and some simple everyday skills for dogs. The Executive Director (ED), runs everything and does mostly everything. 2 PT staff 3-4 days a week half a day. SAFER BA says not to basically have a trainer involved (person familiar/works with dogs), C-BARQ – fairly illiterate relinquishers I moved from MDR, CA to IL recently for a year to help…

When my GSD was younger I used to let her bite my forearm, I know I messed up. She is 9 months old now and she still wants to bite my forearm and she growls and barks at me gets in a downward dog position a lot when she wants to play. I try to give her a toy but she would rather have my forearm, any advice? I also try to put her in her crate when this happens but I could never pick her up because she knows what I want and she drops to the floor.
