Hello there! We have a few questions regarding our puppy, a Malinois who is 4 months and one day old. She came to us at 8 weeks and 2 days. She was the last and the smallest pup from the litter and as of now she is behind her expected weight/size by about 2,5kg. In general she – Jazz is a very lively and healthy dog. Her appetite and food drive in general is as expected from this kind of dog.

We do however have a few of issues with her – hopefully you can give us advice on how to work on it.

She is constantly biting and nipping our 6 year old Hungarian Vizsla. Considering the sharpness of Jazzy’s canines, our older dog has puncture wounds all over her body. Important to say that this is never from aggression on the part of the puppy. They play, and it must have some educating values and it seems as if both enjoy the process.

The second question I have is how long until Jazz would be able to perform the commands without any treats being given to her? Using treats, Jazz does just fine. Today I tried to give her command first and treats afterwards but she looked at me baffled as if asking: “what the hell do you want from me?” Seems that it was a total failure.

My 16 months old male shelter Malinois (got him at 4 months, unsocialized and in a bad health condition) goes crazy during walks because we have so many female dogs in heat in the neighborhood. He tries to sniff their pee (which I try to interrupt early) until his cheeks are trembling and he his drooling. His ears are pulled back while walking and he walks like a drunkard going from right to left to sniff. I don’t reach him with threats in that state so unfortunately it’s a lot of leash popping which keeps him better on track, but does not seem right in this high frequency. What can I do?

I have 2 Tervuren. The 3 year old is neutered. He is titled in Rally Advanced, Beginner Novice Obedience, CGC. He is awesome in the ring, but aggressive outside of the ring as he will growl and has 2x stood and growled at other dogs. 80% of the time he is fine, it seems to show when I don’t pay attention to him. I just ordered the prong collar you recommended. Do you think that this would now be appropriate for me to use in training? I currently use a Martindale and have briefly used slip leads. He can also be aggressive to my older dog on walks. That will be my next question.

We adopted a bull boxer a year ago. He will be 2 y.o. next month. He had been in two homes before where he was left locked in a room during the day, then moved to a home with other dogs who bullied him. He now understands sit, up, down, come, stay, let’s go.

We live in a neighborhood where nearly every other house has a dog. As I watch your videos, I see we need more time with a long leash in an open space, but for weekday neighborhood walks, what would you do to reinforce good manners on a 6 ft leash where we run into dogs/people, or in the case where passing by house w/ dog behind fence?

Hi Robert. I asked you for a trainer recommendation during members chat sometime ago and you asked me to send you a msg here to remind you. Can you please recommend someone you trust to help me train my 5 year old female GSD. I love your videos but I need someone in person to guide me to properly use ecollar or prong. I don’t trust I’m doing it correctly so I stopped using them until I learn the right way. TIA

I have a 2 year old Belgium Sheepdog with a strong prey drive. I ended up with a kitten and hope my dog will accept this one cat. What is the best way to do this? Is it possible? Right now I’ve got them separated but can interact between a gate. She’s on a leash in the house. I just joined your group and I’m working my way through your lessons. She’s partially trained and I’ve worked with a few trainers but definitely has some holes in her training that I’m trying to address. Thank you

Are there resources/recipes for cooking homemade dog food in an affordable way (similar price range to dry food)?

Do you ever transition away from using the treats?

My wife was running our 10 month old Doberman today on prong collar and an off leash dog started to approach them. Zella, our Doberman lunged at it and growled so my wife pulled back on leash and Zella turned and bit my wife on calf and drew a little blood. Nothing serious but a little scary. Is this a freak accident of confusion or frustration nipping of my wife’s leg or do we have an aggression problem starting? Zella is great with our 4 year old son and 12 year old daughter and hasn’t shown aggression towards any people. Only growls at dogs who try and challenge or dominate her.

Hey Robert. Last Friday I lost my beloved Malinois/best friend Loki. During a game of fetch I made a mistake and threw his ball over a short wall (knee height) that he always jumped over easily. He was too far back though and gained too much speed. He didn’t jump, he collided and was paralyzed instantly. Being told he’d never walk again I had to let him go. It’s been the hardest loss of my life. We did everything together & he was my ESA. How do I grieve and eventually prepare for a new dog? I want another Malinois, but a girl this time, as I don’t want to feel like I’m replacing my boy, Loki.
