Stacked Intro Outline

The way dogs meet can and will make a huge impact on how they respond to that introduction.

In this lesson we talk about how to properly use the stacked introduction. There are several things to consider, including where our hands are and how much time dogs should be allowed to spend during this intro.

This can be used for shelter dogs as well as any dogs. It can be done through hand stacking (that means me controlling the stack physically) as well as a free stack where I can walk another dog behind your dog. It. can also be used in a lured stack, where I use treats to lure the dog.

Sometimes the use of treats will help keep a dog focused on you while the other dog sniffs.

There are several times that this topic (stacked introductions) comes up in this course. It is a great tool to know how to use when handling dogs. There are some dogs that are completely aversive to being stacked or handled in this situation. It’s important that you learn both the hand stacking as well as lured and free stacking.
