Mellow Day 9 -Putting it Together

I generally think that a client and their dog have a connection and a pretty good understanding by the 10th session we do. We’re coming up to that lesson and you can see that Ellen is really connecting better with the training with Mellow and understanding where the mistakes are. REMEMBER, there will always be mistakes no matter where you are in your training. The key becomes recognizing them faster and fixing them.

So the things that once were strange become more natural, your communication opens and it all starts to make sense. That’s the best part of the job. Now, it’s really important to understand that after the 10th session we’ve only just begun. Training will be a process that takes a long time and will continue for the life of the dog. But the point that the dog and person connect is put into place.

In this session we focus a bit more on the PLACE command, something I start teaching day 1! We can also now focus on the STAY, which is something that I don’t teach young puppies because it can be stifling and confusing. The basics of SIT and DOWN come into place and the BBBIIIIGGG piece is learning that we’re not always luring, but we can start rewarding. That comes through how we deliver the rewards.

The last two parts of the lesson are a great insight. First we take Mellow’s first walk on the street and you’ll see my basic theory for that and then we talk about some basics that I consider important for being a responsible dog owner and protecting my puppy!

I hope you enjoy this series as we draw close to the last lesson. ONE MORE TO GO!
