Buster Learns Manners and Social Skills (Jumping on People)

I love these “Join the Lesson” days when I get to work on various things with a new dog.

Today we met Buster, a very sweet dog with a few little quirks: He was shy, loved to jumping his mom and often others, didn’t have great manners around other dogs and needed to work on some basic skills. Well, we got to cover it all in this lesson.

We worked on building a better relationship with his mom through structured engagement and leash manners. He hadn’t learned much of that since he came home during the “pandemic.” I think so many people missed out on socializing dogs during this time and it is a shame for these dogs. Buster had some bad experiences that I wanted to work on, namely meeting other dogs. For that, Jimi is always a shy or scared dogs BEST FRIEND. Jimi is stoic and a true gentleman. The most amazing dog I’ve EVER met in this situation. He allowed Buster to meet him and didn’t put any pressure on him at all. This was a good experience for Buster and one he should experience more and more to become more comfortable with other dogs.

This session also helped Buster learn how to follow his mom, not jump and feel more secure and trusting. This lesson has a little something for everyone whether your dog has these issues or not.

SOCIAL SKILLS DON’T MEAN ENGAGING WITH OTHERS –

BUT HAVING GOOD MANNERS IN THEIR PRESENCE!
