This is a great lesson for those of you who want to take your relationship with your dog as well as your obedience training a little further. Competitive Obedience is a category in many dog sports such as IGP / Schutzhund, Ring Sports as well as AKC. These are also skills that you can practice and perfect on your own.
This is sort of fast forwarding over the lessons with Siggy, but some of you may be a little ahead of schedule, so I thought, why not share this one. Siggy, Yossi and I had a blast on this training session and I think you will too. Be patient with your dog. That is something that I’m having to remind myself of with Schmuley coming into my life. Some dogs re more difficult, and puppies are a whole different element. In fact I would say that there is NOTHING in this lesson that you should approach with a puppy under 6-12 months old.
These skills in this video are based on an intermediate level of training with your dog. The exercises include: Go Outs / Send aways, broad jump, down in motion. and some other tidbits. As with anything there are numerous ways to teach these skills. This is the way I found best for Siggy, in some videos lessons you’ll see me use a different approach. Neither is 100% right, none are completely wrong. I like to give you access to different ways of teaching that may help different dogs.
I don’t like a ONE WAY approach. Some dogs work well for praise, some need toys, some work best for food. You MUST find what works for a particular dog and use THAT way. It’s not about which way is best, because no ONE WAY is best. You need to search and find the best way for THIS dog!
Enjoy, ask as always, thank you for training your dog with me!
