This course is the culmination of over 15 years of my work in animal shelters training staff, volunteers and management in the skills it takes to save shelter dogs. Learning the skills to work with these dogs is paramount in saving their lives. Shelter dogs are different from “pet dogs,” I explain that in one of the first lectures you’ll see in this program. The main difference is that these (shelter) dogs don’t have the bond with a person that a pet dog has, and that can make a huge difference in the way they respond to life.
We don’t know anything about these dogs when we start working with them. Do they have a bite history? How are they with other animals? Do they like to train… to be touched… etc? We learn that as we go.
I’ve handled some of the most difficult dogs and worked with them. I’ve shown countless people how to do the same. Thousands of dogs have been trained, saved and put into loving homes because of the training you are about to embark upon.
There is nothing like this anywhere! Whether you are a professional trainer, shelter dog employee or any other dog professional, this course will give you a broader understanding of dog behavior and training than you will get anywhere else.
My advice to anyone who wants to become a dog trainer is “volunteer at an animal shelter…” You will never, EVER get better hands-on experience with different breeds, drives and types of dogs.
Let’s get started! ~Robert
