Sandy spotted me at the park working with my dogs and asked if I could help her with Tasha. It seems that she just can’t control the jumping. I’ve heard that so many times before, so I thought this would make a great video lesson for everyone. I’ll put a short version of this lesson on YouTube later this week, but the member lesson is over 30 minutes long. I give Sandy two options to work with this issue. Those of you who know me know that I’m not a big fan of kneeing dogs in the chest for this issue.
The most important thing to do is to get the dog to do something preventatively and correct if they make a mistake. The other thing is to block the action altogether. Both of these are addressed in this video.
Remember a dog jumping on people may seem cute, but people can get hurt, in particular older people and smaller children. This is a strike on your dog if they cause injury, whether through fun or not.
I think you’ll enjoy this video lesson, Sandy was such. nice lady and I really enjoyed our session. She was ecstatic with her new learned skills, as I hope you will too!
