The very most important skill a dog must posses is his or her ability to be social. Sadly this is completely misunderstood by most people. They think that being social means saying hi to everyone and meeting and playing with every dog! THAT IS NOT SOCIALIZATION. What you see in this video is!
A dog that is able to function around other dogs, other people and other places than their home. THAT is a primary skill that we want dogs to have. That is what I stress in this video lesson.
There are very different dogs in this class, from a Labrador to a Spanish Mastiff to a Malinois and more. Each dog learns to focus on their owner and remain neutral to others. You can see that I focus on solid control and engagement with the dogs and their owners. Loose leash, calm energy and consistent information. Before you teach your dog fancy obedience or anything else, be sure they can handle a social environment. This skill alone is a lifesaver!
In this video lesson we focus on the following: Proper social skills, recall with distractions, focus on owner with distractions, group obedience and meeting a stranger. Many of these skills are required for a simple behavior evaluation like a BH or a AKC Canine Good Citizen… more importantly, they are lifeskills that keep dogs out of shelters!
