One of the best features that I’ve incorporated into this site is these continuing lessons with the various dogs. It really gives you an insight into the week by week progress (or lack thereof). The reason I say this is because people are often let down by the progress their dog is making in training. They become frustrated and disappointed. I really understand this, especially now with my puppy. BUT, I want to tell you something… I’m really enjoying the slow progress. I’m enjoying seeing things connect and being patient. I wasn’t always like that, but this time it’s different. I want to enjoy each step of the way.
This is Ellen and Mello’s 5th lesson and you can see the changes starting to happen. Now, Ellen is not a dog trainer, but she’s owned many dogs. This is the first time she’s taken training this seriously… and I really admire that! Look at the great progress that Mellow is making and you’re seeing it right before your eyes. I can’t say that she is 100% dedicated to training every day as I might be, after all she is quite busy with her personal life. But dogs can learn a lot from a little bit of focused training.
In this lesson we introduce Mellow to a better focus by using “mouth rewards”, we work on staying close while walking, we enforce our recalls with “restrained recalls” and a whole lot more. I urge you to stay dedicated to your training. It only takes a few minutes a few times a day. Altogether less than an hour a day can make a HUGE difference.
