Hi Robert. What are your thoughts on adjustable level vibrate collars with a handheld remote as a training tool? I’m currently using one with my 18 month mini dachshund. I was recommended to use one by my local trainer, initially to curb a couple of unwanted behaviours rather than popping the leash while she was next to me. Having watched all your ecollar videos and read Larry krohns ecollar book, I began using it in a similar fashion. I like it as a tool and Tilly seems to respond to it in a positive fashion. Thanks

I am wondering if my approach to this behavior is correct or if I should be doing something different. When I get near my wife my dog begins jumping at us and barking. I tell him no and bump his leash but he does not quit. So I will lead him to his crate and put him in time out until he settles down. He just doesn’t seem to get it.

I have a 3 month old working line GSD female. When she gets too wound up and I put her in her crate, or when she is wound up and pulls her bed out of the crate, she humps the edge of her bed. What does this mean? Also, when walking today she got to meet a neighborhood dog about her size in height and she was lunging at him and pointing her nose towards him as she did it. I’m not sure if its playful or aggressive. She does this to our cats also. In the first week after we got her, she pounced on and rolled my daughters elderly shihtzu. Seems she bullies dogs her size or smaller.

I am a volunteer trainer at an animal rescue.  One of my roles is socialization to strangers, both at the rescue and when walking a dog in public such as a store.  One of my trainees has a fear of new people.  What do you advise is the best way to introduce dogs to new people, either potential adopters or new people.  I will give the stranger treats and instruct them to put them in the palm of their hand and hold below his chin.  On occasion, the dog will eat the treats but then try to bite the hand as the person is taking it away. What else can I be doing?

I have a super anxious board and train. I don’t think he’s ever been crated in his life. In the house and in the crate he’s beyond anxious, and outside he’s much more calm. I give him 4-6 sessions daily (depending on if we go on outings or not). What are some things I can do to help minimize the anxiety?

I have a 5-month-old Belgian Malinois-14kg. We live near the mountains, so our long afternoon walks are on natural trails with very few people. We do at least two short, fun training sessions per day. When we walk alone, Timo’s recall is very reliable: he stays close, checks me often, and returns quickly. With neighbours dogs, his recall weakens because he is focused on interacting. He is very social: he almost no longer jumps on people, but he eagerly pulls to greet other dogs. He always comes back, but his focus is inconsistent. I sometimes use a 5-meter-long line and sometimes off-leash.

Good morning, Robert, Reina our 6 year old Malinois has a bite history. Before we lost our home in the Eaton fire last year. Reina was viciously attacked by an offleash dog. Since then, the vicious cycle has just repeated itself in my dog going after other dogs. I have sought help from many trainers with no resolution .  We are active in our community and fortunate enough to have beautiful trails to hike. I would like to put her bad behavior to work in a good way for her. Our local Humane Society, although offers agility classes dogs with bite history are not allowed.
