Hey Robert I’m a member of a local dog club that has its members competing in various trials such as: Beginner novice and Novice obedience. My question is how do you resolve the dog running out of the obedience ring during competition, resulting in a non-qualification. I’m not sure what causes this problem or how to correct it, since it occurs at different events within the competition. These events may be the sit/stay, and particularly the recall. Looking forward to any advice you may have. Thanks so much!!

Recently I’ve been training my 3 year old black mouth cur mix to sit, stand, down and leave it. I use his regular food for training. He seems to respond much more to my hand movements (with food in it) than to my verbal commands. Any tips on how to have him focus more on what I say? And question 2: Sometimes when I say leave it or sit, he goes into a down. How can I help him not mix things up?

Our 1 year old Pitbull mix pulls hard and yanks on the leash when she runs into another dog friend or if she sees myself or my wife. For example, if we are walking and we see one of our neighbors dogs, she will run to try and play with them and will yank on leash. She will do similarly when I am walking her and my wife comes to join us. She otherwise does not pull on leash, she does well around strangers and unknown dogs. We have tried dynamic walking around triggers, throwing treats to engage her nose, and leash pops corrections. Can you give us some advice on how to help her?
