Hi Robert, I hope you are well. We have a 13 month old male working line GSD (rollo) he is well exercised and obedience trained Today at a family bbq he was off leash and playing when a family friend he doesnt know came through the back gate, rollo jumped up at him and was pushed off by the person but then he aggressively bit the person on the arm while growling. I pinned him and he immediately calmed but the whole thing was such a shock. I feel I’ve failed as an owner because I didn’t have control of him to prevent this. What can I do to correct this and prevent any other reactivity he has?

Dear Mr. Cabral, my mother and I have a 15 month old German Sheppard. Her name is Heidi. She is smart and when we started walking I made sure she felt safe. I had her stop and stand when traffic past. She did real good at walking in traffic but about 3 months ago she started wanting to ran after all the rigs that past us. I fear for her safety on walks. I use a prong collar on her:

Question 1. How do I stop that behavior?

Question 2. I take her into stores, do I still need the prong collar or the Martingale collar?

My 11 week old Malinois goes from puppy biting to won’t let go biting. When I pry her mouth off my hand and tell her “no” she gets aggressive and lunges at me.  What is the best way to correct this behavior? Thanks.

I am trying to teach my puppy to wait at any exit, allowing me to step out first, preventing him from bolting out of any door. At this point he just rushes out when I open the door, I have been putting him in a sit and ask him to wait, if he gets up, I put him right away back into the sit and repeat the wait command. Then I tell him LOS , this is the command we chose (I grew up in Germany). He breaks it a lot at this point, and I am trying to be consistent, but I do have to physically put him back into the sit position. Just making sure this is the correct way to teach him the wait. Thank you

Hello Robert, Hope this finds you well, thank you for all you do! I rescued Thaia about 3wks ago from a local shelter, the estimate she is 1.5YRS. Even before I got her, set her up for 8 week board & training with reputable trainers. Before that starts, have some Qs with what I’ve learned about her so far: – VERY high prey drive, squirrels in particular (how to control in constructive way?), – has trouble focusing while training – how to stop barking when someone comes over (mailman etc) I have so many Qs, appreciate in advance! Also, do you offer private lessons? Would def drive out!

I have a 2-year-old female American Bully—super sweet, not aggressive, and pretty good with basic obedience. She lives with our 3lb Yorkie (who actually bosses her around), but lately she’s been reactive when guests come over. She barks and approaches them—not to bite, but enough to make people nervous given her size and breed. We got her as a family/protection dog, so I get that she’s doing her job. But how can I teach her to be calm when we say it’s okay, or at least not react when the doorbell rings? I’d love for her to be more neutral or friendly with new people.

Hi Robert. I’m new to this group and joined after listening to a video about why the average person shouldn’t own a Malinois. Yes, I’m stupid and take no offense to that language used in your video.  I got Bella from an animal shelter and had no idea of the risk and responsibility/needs of this dog.  And I now need to know if I should keep her or give her to someone who knows what they are doing?  She’s 10 weeks old, has already had a hard life(taken from mom at 2 weeks and fostered until 8 weeks now with me). I’m following your training course and she’s doing great. What should I do?

Hello! I hope you are well. I trained Whiskey (2y F GSD) to “back” last summer. She was doing really well and ask her to do it when we play outside. She has recently started running and jumping sideways, getting really sloppy while backing up in anticipation for her ball. I want her to go back to backing up directly in front of me. I tell her “no, back” to which she will for a couple steps but then get sloppy again.  How can I correct this?  Take care and God bless.
