Just picking up my 8 week old GSD today, what do you recommend table scraps?
Had GSD’s for 43 years and my wife always feed our puppies. She’s not on board on this one which is why I enlisted in your instructions it’s all on me and want to do the right thing
Thank you

Hi. I just got a 16 weeks old female Belgian Malinois. She will not go down/up the outdoor stairs (10-15 steps). Is it too soon for her? What can I do?

As you had recommended in a previous Q&A. I asked my hubby to watch a few of your videos. Took awhile because hubby & 10mth GSD have A.D.D. I watch your videos over & over until Luke and I get the commands perfected. I think I just want hubby to realize that this isn’t a one time thing…its a commitment. Proper use of the prong collar is a miracle. I am the sole trainer. Hubby got a female GSD/Poodle mix 7mths. she dominates Luke lets her take toys/bones, balls etc. Should I interfere?

Hi Robert and Janet, My 10 months old Mali does not like when my husband is showing me some new Jiu Jitsu moves on me, the other day he nipped my husband in the leg, we always give him a firm correction in the moment, when its the other way around, when Im the one doing some arts martial moves on my husband, he doesn’t really care… besides the firm correction, what else can I do? He is really attach to both of us, and listen very well both too.

New puppy, working on crate training. Breeder/ trainer said stick her in the crate and wait out the crying. We did this two nights and after 20m she is quiet, but needs to potty at 2hrs. I’m also working on your crate training method all positive, but worries the night forcing could be messing that up. Should I let her sleep on a bed in our room until the crate training is good? We’re on the 3rd day of owning her now. Thanks.

Hello Robert, I just got my 8week old Belgian Malinios, Mika (mee-kuh), and I’m having trouble getting her to stand and lay down. I’ve watched your instructional video and she just seems to want to go from laying down to a sit instead of laying down to a stand. Any tips?

Hello! I have a 1y dutchie who unfortunately was not socialized adequately during the initial puppyhood, and while I’m aware that that mostly means exposure and neutrality to people, she should still be able to greet people politely. Unfortunately that is not the case, she will approach people inquisitively wagging her tail but once she decides the interaction is too much she will low growl or hard stare and I inevitably have to intervene. How would you go about re-introducing her to greetings?

Hi! I have two questions for you. Can you explain what the purpose of tapping and continuous stim on the ecollar is? Some people use one over the other, but which is better? Should I be using both? Second, can you please recommend any tick preventions?

Dear Mr. Cabral, Thank you for all that you do. My 8 month old Mal, after playing in our large yard with us, waits until immediately after play (if we’re not watching) to rip branches off of the Japanese Maple tree, or dig holes. I know it’s difficult to provide advice given this brief information, but will she grow out of this behavior, or is it possible she needs more mental stimulation? We exercise 2-4 times a day, & she’s not left alone in the yard for more than 5 minutes. Thank you so much.

Robert; we adopted a 10 month old male GSD from our county shelter in Nov. 2020. He was there for 2 months before we got him. He was extremely dog reactive. We can now walk past other dogs on the same street without him exploding. I feel what’s left of his reactivity is frustration in not be able to meet other dogs. Would you recommend I use a dog daycare – to leave him with the staff to work on socializing him with other dogs? Could he have “flashbacks” to his shelter days? Thanks KT

Thanks for answering my question in the other member question, your suggestion to socialize a scared puppy in a mall. I followed your suggestion by feeding food/treats in the mall, but a scared puppy does not even want to take any food, any other approaches? thanks

Irene

My Anatolian is being trained to be with chickens and its going well. Today while we were with the chickens,I gave him a treat as a reward for ignoring a very major distraction.Problem is a chicken decided she wanted his treat and my dog responded by chasing her away from him.I corrected him for chasing, but understand why he did it. My question is,should I avoid feeding him any food at all by the chickens,or do the opposite and train him as a LGD to ignore pesky chickens trying to steal his food?

Hi Robert, Thanks for everything. My 8 mo male Golden is barking outside non-stop. Usually with tail wagging. I’ve tried the calm corrections constantly with very little success. I’m also struggling with the come on demand. I’m afraid this could lead to a dangerous situation as I hike all the time. This dog is really smart. He listens to other commands. The stay and down stay from a long distance is great but these 2 problems are driving me crazy. Would a prong collar help? Thanks

Hi Robert. I am rescuing a 3 year old pitbull from a shelter in a weeks time. I would like to set us both up for success from day one. Can you offer some advice on how I should implement structure over the first few days? Should this start immediately? For instance should walks be structured from day one so she wont pull or should i allow a few days for her to get to know me first. She was found as a stray and has been in the shelter for a few months.
Thanks

Elisabeth

Seeking advice re aggressive resource guarding between our 15-mth Pyrenees & 8yr Golden. At 11 mths the Pyr started attacking the male. He was neutered at age 13 mth (vet said it could take up to 4 mth for testosterone levels to peter out) We always intervene, otherwise there would be serious injury (they have broken skin). Appears to be food-related (we are mitigating by feeding separately) but also spaces such as the entrance and stairways. The dogs play together, Pyr is obedient. Thank you.
