Hello Robert, My roughly three year old dog can be very submissive and I need advise on a specific situation. She knows another dog since puppyhood but haven’t played with each other in the last two years or so. Every time my dog sees the other dog she runs to him and lies down and pauses in a submissive posture.Last time she even peed herself when doing this, rolling over. I train her for three months now using your videos and it helped build her confidence a lot. But how can I break this habit? The other dog is taller than mine and about the same age. Never saw anything rough between them.

My male mal just turned 1 yr. He is well socialized, I feel I can take him almost anywhere I go (lots of work, got him there thanks to your site). Over the last month, he has started to “go off” on random people we encounter in public. By go off, I mean a pretty aggressive response as in “I want to tear your head off”. He is a sweet boy normally and this just started. It is random, not every time and not all the time, but…It’s happened 3 or 4 times in the last month. I correct and put him into a sit, or I will go a different direction. What is the best way to address this? Thanks!

Hi Robert, I adopted a very nervous malinois about a year ago, she has come a long way and is pretty happy, her obedience is good, responds to commands, great recall, leave it, etc, super happy.
What I’d like to improve if it makes sense, is that she gets nervous/unsure if I try to incentivize her to bite a toy or play tug, I’d like to get her into this type of play (tug, fetch, etc), since I believe it would build up her confidence even more. Any suggestion on how to start this with a dog that doesn’t seem predisposed to do so?
Wishing you all the best as you rebuild, stay strong.

Hi. My Shepard/Malinois mix, about 7 months old although socialized a lot by going out with me to stores and public places, has been a fearful pup since we found her. She and her 3 siblings were dumped on a desert road at about 8 weeks. She is great with here known dog and people friends in our home area and mostly good out. She can bark at certain people for no known reason that we see. She is about 50 lbs and can be scary. My issue is how to work with her to be able to go for a spay appt at a low cost clinic. I will go through the site for lessons but could use specific ideas. Thank.

Hi Robert, We rescued our 7 month old GSD in January. I’m her main trainer and she is generally good on loose leash walks with me, but does occasionally bounce and nip at my arm, often when performing dynamic turns to re-engage her. My wife is struggling on walks as Freya tends to bite her arms and legs leaving bruises and welts. This causes her to become more nervous and tense and to micro-manage the leash to stop the biting, which we assume only escalates things. Would you recommend that my wife simply stop walking the dog for now or do you have other suggestions to correct the behaviour?

We have 4 dogs. One is Marley, is a 13 Y.O. spayed Walker Hound. May of 2024 we rescued two 3 mo. old Great Pyrenees Anatolian Shepard mix from a bad family situation. Roxie’s spaying appointment is July 7. The dogs coexisted peacefully, even patrolling together until last week on May 15th. While outside, they got into a fight. We don’t know who or what caused it. Marley was mildly injured before we could separate them. Now they seek each other out to fight. We’ve no idea what changed between them or how to stop this behavior. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 6 month old Belgian Shepherd that redirects when playing tug and goes for my hand instead of the tug this sometimes happens 2 minutes into the game other times 3 or 4 minutes into the game. The game is never longer than 5 minutes at most. Should I stop engaging in tug with this pup? The pup has good manners when given the tug and when taken away.
