Gunner turned 1 yesterday, 115 lbs Intact Rottie, when training on the go around command how to you get him to sit close 1/2 time very good other 1/2 sits too far away?

I would probably go back to the luring phase and keep my lure right by my hip. If he still goes too far out then I would just lure him in closer and release.

Every time he’s in proper position I would release and reward, and I probably wouldn’t add any other elements into the exercise until you have the desired positioning.

I would love to see what others say or if they have any secrets in their toolbox

my dog’s heel position isn’t perfect too. but maybe if he sits too far away from you the next time, say no, try to move one step and call him to heel again until he gets to the correct position and then reward.

I’ve had success with saying “no- heel” and she gets in closer. But I second going back to the lure.

Take a look at Robert’s video on Hind End Awareness using the pot / brick / bowl. This is part of what that is useful for.
