First question on 03/08/22. Follow up question. Dog is a bully type breed. Tokyo has separation anxiety, fixated on husband. Tokyo sees husband as his lifeline. Husband just left, Tokyo redirects his energy on me. Hard mouth on hands. Push my hand into his mouth. Not hard or fast. He gags, does not stop. He is chewing. His excitement is going up. I stop. Try to redirect. Keeps coming at me. Sorry, got frustrated. Stood up, yelled, confronted. It seemed to help. But I hear that is a no no.

Hello! My dog understands contextually when we’re working and she will default to our competition style focused heel, but I haven’t been teaching her a relaxed out-and-about heel, she just knows that the word for both is the same and off the field she will auto relax her stance. Could this be confusing to her? In an effort to give clear guidelines should I consider only using Fus in training and maybe heel for relaxed walking? Even though she seems to know my expectations in both situations.

When my dog gets worked up – either when she is playing aggressively with another dog or if I am walking her on leash and she wants to approach another dog urgently and I don’t allow it – she inadvertently bites/nips at me. She inadvertently will nip at any human leg that is around the dog play. It typically is when she isn’t in control of the play time with the other dog, when she acts nipping at my leg or whatever is around. How do I stop this? Thanks

When using the bowl/brick do you use the heel command to transfer the skill?

As you know, I’ve been using the e-collar to strengthen the recall and grant my BC off lead freedom. She’s been doing very well and I have not needed to use the e-collar for many weeks. Do you think that dogs forget how to respond if an emergency happens (e.g. chasing after deer) and they haven’t felt the e-collar for a long time?

The e-collar has helped such a lot, and now it feels like a seatbelt, it’s on if needed, not because you assume you’ll have an accident.I hope they don’t get banned.

Hi Robert! Can you please put out more videos on the dog and baby topic? Your newborn video has been a great resource to me and has facilitated a successful 4 weeks of living with my newborn and 4 year old boxer. Looking for more videos and would love to see you check back in with the family from the first one. It would be great to see how they handle day to day living now that the baby is slightly older and has been living with the dog for some time.

I thought I did my research, bought a working line Mal with the intention of doing sports. She’s a nervy mess, great at home, ok in public as long as no one touches her (we don’t allow it), she will bite. We’ve been training since 10wks,she’s a carrier of both A22 genes, no spontaneous rage, just fear aggression. She’s muzzle trained, we’re working with a new trainer, our 3rd. Can’t change genes but how much can training help? She’s definitely a dog that would bite a stranger, I just love her.

This may sound like a stupid question…but….I have a large Weimaraner and I’m not exactly tall…..throwing treats between my legs would be somewhat comical. I would either be knocked down or end up riding him backwards. I feel if I throw the treats to the side it might cause him to veer instead of staying tight in front of me. Any suggestions?

Thanks – PS…love your videos and training techniques

Hi Robert, I started crate training my entlebucher from day one(8 wks) and continued using it until he was about 2.5 yrs old. He loved it! Due to his age, behavior and a lack of square footage, I chose to replace it with his bed. Would you suggest setting it up periodically as a “refresher” in case he has to be crated at the vet, travelling, or for some other reason?…or is it a bit like riding a bike? He’s 4 yrs old now. P.S-I’m anxiously awaiting for your vest to ship to Canada! Thnx so much!

ROBERT thank you so much for answering my previous question. I was wondering if I can have a one on one training session with you fur you to evaluate Wally. Wally served in the Netherlands as a police dog and I bought him as a trained protection dog. Wally and I need more training. I live in Whittier and I can meet you anywhere. You were going to Recommend me some protection dog associations but I didn’t get the information. Thank you for everything you do for us!

9mth old gsh mix is going into stupid prey drive on walks. Nose is always down and recall is often not possible. She doesn`t pay attention on the leash. I did the change directions excercise often but this doesn`t work anymore since 2 weeks. She also started to fixate and hunt cats. I started to handfeed again and let her work for food. Without distractions we can train very good but the walks are not funny. Is taking away the off leash walks to harsh? Actually I don`t see much fun for her.

Hi Robert. My JR Daisy is uninterested in training. It is getting worse each day now. She was only responding to basic commands if she sees the treats. Now she totally ignores me. She was never really motivated by food but she begs for food when we have our meals. Daisy was my second shadow until 2 years old and suddenly she is obsessed with my husband and only prefers him. What can I do make Daisy get back on track with training with me? How can Daisy be ready before Malinoise puppy arrives?

Referring to Q&A Mar 11. Sabine asked your opinion on neutering. I am considering leaving my 9m GSD intact. Is it physically healthier for him? Does it REALLY calm them down? I don’t want a couch potato, yet I don’t want him to eat the couch either. Can you be a little more explicit of the term you used *balanced*. Also Janet’s 10 second pause was well executed and I enjoyed the comradery between you two at that moment.

Is there a video, or can you provide steps on getting a puppy to loose leash walking. I have a 3.5 month Golden Retriever pup and want to approach this well with an idea of how to get to my end goal of loose leash walking, hiking, running.

I got mixed up with a Koehler trainer not knowing the method and did a week of long line walks with him before deciding he’s to young for something so aversive. Where would be a good starting place for him?

Should I use a harness for now, as he chokes himself

Hi Robert I’m planning for a trip and will need to board my 2yr GSD who has never boarded before for 2 days. We work from home so she is not left alone a lot but is confident in her crate when we do leave the house. I’d like to board her for the day to get her used to it. How often and how long should I take her for in the beginning. Are longer or shorter durations better? Thank you.
