When redirection doesn’t work and we try to prevent our 3 mo old Malinois from biting something, he growls like he’s possessed and tries hard to bite us. We hold him tight until he calms down (usually several seconds), but occasionally he does manage to bite us. The question is if this is normal for a Malinois puppy and is something he’ll grow out of or whether we need to apply a harsher correction to prevent this from becoming a habit. He has many chew toys, bully sticks, and tugs as outlets.

My 3 yr old Dutch Shepherd has separation anxiety, and his crate was used as punishment. He will go into it reluctantly when told to, but the moment the door gets closed he panics. I can take him in the car and leave him. He’s fine, but it will soon be too hot. His crate is a big heavy dark thing. Should I get a new open one and start over. Help. Thanks.

Hi Robert, I am getting ready for my upcoming German Shepherd puppy. Wondering if you have had any experience feeding your dogs cow’s milk. Am thinking it might be good for muscle growth.

Thanks, Heather.

Hello Robert. Zoe is 10 mo. old (German Shepherd), a sensitive dog, but loves people and dogs when off leash—yet for now she’s not off anymore until her recall is perfect. However, when I walk her on leash and she sees a dog ahead, she will put her head low and forward in a very focused way and I can’t get her to look at me. If we pass the dog, she will lunge and growl. I correct her but I’d like to understand the reason for that behavior and what to exactly do about it.

Hello Robert! My 6 month old Mal has been coming to sit on my lap and then if I go to pet him he will growl. I’ve noticed this recently. He will also growl if he’s laying down and you pet him. Anyway I can fix this or make him feel more at ease?

Very mouthy. Recently tore the shirt of a female volunteer. Engagement training has been going well. Just introduced the finish move from a front sit. Today things were going well, other people were at the shelter, and other dogs nearby. Jackson decides to run at me and tried to jump on me full speed. Mouthing not biting. I had to grab his collar and hold him until he calmed down. About 4 min. After that he was ok next to me, tired but ok. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Hello! I’ve had dutchies before, and I’ve titled them in IGP so I am familiar with this breed. Recently I inherited a one year old dutchie and for the life of me cannot get her to engage with me without a tug. For months I’ve been trying relentlessly to build a relationship with this dog, and it seems like it’s been one step forward, ten steps back. She’s currently sitting at the far end of her long line as I reel her in for treats, and back to the end she goes. Any techniques for a hard shell?

Hi Robert. My question today is not about dog. But a technical problem while I am training my dog. I am training my JR Daisy out in a park and I often can’t get the reception for my phone to stay connected to your online course. Would you consider creating your App so that I can download few lessons on my phone to rewatch again and again while I train Daisy outside? I know it’s a lot of financial investment for you but I am happy to pay more. G

Hi Robert I have been on the rescue end many years. Currently working with a foster that is a powerful & strong. Recently neutered. 12 to 18mos? 70lbs. Friendly. I think due to separation anxiety when he first sees us his excitement is overboard. He gets very mouthy. And he has a HARD mouth. We have multiple toys, chews for him to put in his mouth. We direct him to that but sometimes he seems to want to our hands, arms, clothing. I have tried several things. Any suggestions?

Naimbag Nga Aldaw Robert and Janet. Im currently training my 2yr old Mal off leash walking. I tell him “side” to walk beside me and I allow him a body length’s worth of space. My problem is he most of the time walks farther away from what’s allowed and I have to say “side” again. He does come back but then he again repeats the same process. How do I fix this? The video below explains it better. Skateboarders triggers him.

Thank you and Dios ti Ag Ngina.

Hi Robert and Janet, In the middle of my training with my 7 month female GSD, she would automatically run to my son (her favorite person) when he shows up. how do i correct this? if she comes back to me after i call her, do i praise her? Thank you!

Hi, Robert, My puppy is close to 3 months old now. When I walk him outside, he follows me very well most of times (when I call him he comes to me and stay not too far from me most of times). However, when i leash him he just gets crazy and bites leash all the time, also sometimes sit on ground and refuse to keep walking. Is it mean he is somehow dominant to me? What can I do to solve this issue if it’s possible for me to solve it by myself. Thank you!

Hi! I was being overzealous today and decided to leave the e-collar off while playing ball. At one point my dog decided she had enough and laid down ten feet ahead of me. I tried recalling her and she ignored, I took a step forward and she bounced up and trotted further. Huge mistake on my behalf, I didn’t know if it would be appropriate to catch up to her and then verbally correct, but I also don’t want her to think she only needs to be obedient when the e-collar is on. What would’ve been right

I have unknowingly over trained my puppy. I was so excited to get started that I dove straight in and now my puppy is showing so many avoidance behaviors and sometimes flat out ignores me when it’s time to train. He is 20 weeks old and can do SO MUCH because of your videos, but sometimes, he just doesn’t want too and that’s my fault. Is there anything I can do to help him? Did I ruin my new puppy? Right now I am strictly working on increasing drive, do you have any advice?
