We had male husky like that! Luckily he was bonded to my male HeelerxGSDx? They could play and it would look, from the outside, quite extreme. The ears, tails and, I don’t know what to call it, tightness or looseness of the flow between them let me know it worked. The husky never tried humping the heeler cross.

Your comment helped me frame one of my goals. I want to become a well-educated student of canine body language!

Hi, thanks for pointing out that my post needs clarification. I think, in part, I am still learning how to post correctly on the threads. The thread was a request for suggestions for video topics Robert might do in the future. I saw a response requesting managing dogs at play. I also saw a request for how to teach/model basic concepts/words within a discussion of “talking buttons”.

I wanted to “second the motion” on both those suggestions. Splitting them into two comments and perhaps commenting directly on the comments I was “seconding” would have been the way to go.

Can you provide guidence to a newbie? How is it best to respond to a comment that is in the thread? Are there other community communication best practices I can use in regard to maintaining thread, comment or link coherence?

Here is what I could have posted as two seperate comments.

I also would be very interested in any video Robert puts out on managing dogs at play. This is a constant in my life and I video the morning play session. I replay and watch for concerning behaviors. Robert’s guidance would be much appreciated.

I would be very interested in any video Robert put out for teaching & modeling words and concepts, prticularly including information regarding the use of “talking buttons” and/or correlation of scent to words.

Thanks again, Gerard I appreciate your comment. I sincerely want to be a positive, contributing & coherent member of this community.

I second the request for group play observations.

I second the request for “talking” button exposure. We used cotton cloth adhesive stickers on some of our buttons. The buttons for people have cotton which was rubbed on that person’s sweaty skin (pre shower). The buttons for animals have cotton rubbed on the animal’s skin, under forelegs and near groin. Roxy (button pusher) pushed “Jack” and “help” when the merle pup got stuck on the bed and couldn’t jump down. Her brain definitely grasps buttons as signifiers and a means towards prompting human action. Robert’s viewpoint would be much appreciated.

I have a copy of “Search & Rescue Dogs Training Methods” put out by the American Rescue Dog Association 1992 McMillan

It has good diagrams for wind, terrain, scent cone etc.

I’m happy to re-home (no charge) to someone who could use it.
