Good morning/afternoon to all, I just subscribed last week and I already spent all my time watching Robert’s lessons. I have a 7month GSD, male. His name is Bonez. I had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is not sterilized. He listens to commands when we’re inside the home but not much outside. I’ve been having a hard time walking him on a leash for the past few weeks. He pulls a lot and He’s been reactive to humans more than dogs, whether they are approaching us or not. Right now, I am trying the choke collar and trying to correct him before he starts barking or pulling but I feel like he got use to it and if I need to correct him now, it needs to be a really hard correction and I don’t feel like it’s ok. I also tried the 180 degree redirection when he is pulling. I don’t see much improvement and going through Robert’s lesson, I don’t think the choke collar is the best thing for him. I try to lure him with treats and once again, it does work inside the home but not outside. I came to the conclusion that he is not focused on me and I am not the center of his attention but how to fix that? When I try to lure him with treats per example to heel or inside/out of my legs : he starts intensely biting my fingers/hands in order to get the treat. When I don’t give it to him, he walks away. We live in Canada so right now, there is a lot of snow and rain. When we get back home from playing/walking, and I try to wipe him and his paws, he growls and bites more than usual. He doesn’t display that behavior with his groomer.. Also, is the biting at his age still considered as puppy mouthing or a start of aggression ? Thank you all in advance for your tips and tricks.

    Hi Kenza,
    Choke collar:
I would try using a prong collar instead. Make sure you watch Robert’s video on this.

    Reactive towards other people:
When going outside for a walk, try to go where there aren’t any people, for the mean time, if possible. If not, try doing it the farthest away from people where Bonez won’t react to them. Then gradually lessen the distance, to desensitize him.
    Biting your hands:
What Robert advises is when your dog has a hard mouth, try pushing the treat towards him. This will help a lot.

As for the part where he walks away when he doesn’t get the treat, try being more animated when luring him. Also do the training. luring before he eats his meal.
    Growling at you:
I think he is trying to dominate you. Be more “alpha-like” so to speak and correct him when he growls at you. For the being touched part, try to touch different parts of his body and make them a non issue. Reward him when he’s calm when you touch him.
At 7 months, it’s normal for your pup to be mouthy still.
