I just saw Robert’s post about the Sacramento police officer Adam Gibson who was killed along with his K9, Riley. There is no way to ever compensate for such a tragic loss, but it seems like more than coincidence that this happens right after Robert’s podcast about Vested Interest in K9s. I did some checking on the Internet, and it looks like Sacramento Police Department depends on donations to buy vests for their K9s. What does everyone think about collecting donations for the Sacramento Police Department to buy K9s? I would be happy to set up a Go Fund Me or something along that line if there is enough interest, and then coordinate with the SPD and Vested Interest. We can’t help Officer Gibson or Riley, but maybe we could help another K9 survive an attack and continue to protect his handler and other officers. Let me know if you would think this is a good idea so I can gauge the interest.

    Absolutely without a doubt!

Every donation no matter the size would help and it’s the least that we could do for those who are putting their lives on the line whether it be human or K9

    That’s a great idea.

Just thought, would we need to set up a separate go fund me or should we just post the vested interest donation page link for people to go to?

I have been in contact with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department. They suggested two options to remember and honor Officer Adam Gibson and K9 Riley.

    1. Go to https://cahpcu.org/DeputyAdamGibsonMemorialFund to contribute to a fund to support Officer Gibson’s family.

    2. Make a donation to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Dept K9 Association at https://www.ssdk9.com/donate/. Donations are used to provide protective equipment for the K9s (vests, paw protection, lifting harnesses, cooling equipment, etc), enable K9s and their handlers to attend specialty training, pay medical bills for retired K9s, and pay burial costs for K9s.

Our police officers (both human and K9) risk their lives for us every day when they walk out the door. There is no way to thank them enough for their service. God bless every one of them around the country and keep them safe.
