Puppy bites while giving treats

Hello, i just started day 1 puppy training. I have an 11 week old German shepherd. When doing the active training with puppy he tends to lunge at my hand for the treats and bit me several times. Any tips on how to avoid that?

I would push the treat into his mouth when he bites hard to get the treat. This will deter him from doing it again.

Congratulations! 11-weeks old is, of course, literally an infant and should be handled accordingly with lots of patience and love. As for the nipping at treats, there is a Cabral video discussing just this topic, and if i recall, he instructs how to hold your hand in a fist to prevent the mouthing/nipping. With a 11-weeks old shepherd the mouthing will continue for at least another 5-6 months and mistakes by the puppy will of course be made and tolerated with patience. I highly recommend the liquid bandages (amazon) as you will 100% guaranteed to go through a bottle. As Cabral once humorously said, we signed up for this when we got this puppy, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. Can’t recommend enough how important it is to watch his videos. Given you already found Cabral and your puppy is just 11-weeks, you are setup for success, so well done. Congrats again. These days will fly by so enjoy these times.

Thanks! I wonder if it’s in the puppy training section?

I found it on youtube “How to Stop PUPPY Biting When Taking Treats – PUPPY Dog Training Video” but haven’t found it locally. I used search terms “cabral biting treats” on youtube. I think it might have been part of a longer one here.
