I have 3 year old GSD we adopted about a year and a half ago and a 6 year old mal we adopted 6 months ago. People compliment their behavior. Today my non aggressive GSD bit my mal severely on his front leg after he gently nipped at her for mounting him. He is also not aggressive. Will we have to give him up? She has never showed any aggression toward humans or towards him until today but I have heard that once a dog bites another dog and draws blood they can’t be trusted and must be euthanized.

Hello Robert, Just wanting to confirm how to properly size a toggle choke chain (as opposed to the type that slips over the head). Many thanks

Hi Robert! One of my friends has a one year old Malinois who almost always aggressively bites the crate as the door is being closed. Treats are given in the crate to make it positive. I witnessed it once and it sounded like the dog was attacking him, but he said it’s just the crate she’s biting. There was, however, one time he got bit in the process. How would you recommend training this behavior to be no longer acceptable? I had never heard of this before.

I’ve walked with my now 7 month female Boston Terrier with a long line and Martingale doing large circles and about face turning also using treats and toys. At 1st she was very responsive and walking on a loose leash next to me but recently she tries to sway to the side of the road and sniff watch squirrels and birds Etc. Also if she sees a person she wants to visit.I turn and go the other way she is now lagging behind me and I loose her attention completely. Is it time to correct with a pop?

Hello to my fave couple

Robert I respect you but this question is for Janet. Do you find that you and Robert have opposing viewpoints on how to instruct your pups? Particularly when they were at the 10mo stage…..AND do the dogs respond differently to each of you?

Robert instructed me to get my hubby to watch some videos. Hubby doesn’t get it. In spite of that, it’s like my GSD pup watched the videos before me because he responds effortlessly. Will this be a problem later on for hubby?

Hello Janet and Robert, On this week’s Members LIVE you gave me wonderful direction on how to get Maggie to stay closer to me on our morning, off-leash, desert hikes, using her ecollar. Usually she is far ahead or even out of sight. I doubted I could undo the problem I created for the past year but I tried it this morning. It worked 100%. Though I realize I may have the smartest dog on the planet, I can’t thank you enough for fixing yet another problem I thought to be unfixable.

I have a one year old lab mix who is very anxious, afraid of loud noises, and dislikes being outside during the day. At night she is more comfortable since there is less going on. She is so hyper alert that she won’t take food or toys when we are outside, so I don’t know how to work with her. When there are other dogs around she is more comfortable and will play for a while until some loud noise scares her. We live in an apartment and I am struggling to get her to exercise, play, or go for walks.

Naimbag nga Aldaw Robert and Janet. May I ask what are the pros and cons between getting an 8 wk old puppy vs a 12 wk old one with regards to health, trainability, socializing with a new pack (we have 2 Mals, 4 Shihtzus, 1 JRT, adults.) My breeder has a policy of releasing his pups at 12 wks. He provides a health warranty so he wants to make sure the pups have had their shots completed. I am for that too. But as eager as I am, I want to train the pup as early as possible. Dios ti Ag Ngina.

Hi Robert, I was wondering how you would handle a 18 month old German Shepard who is becoming what I believe territorial aggressive. I currently keep him on leash whenever my other dogs are out and whenever he growls or seems worked up around then I correct them and he seems to get more annoyed towards them. He has bit one of them before. Thank you

Matthew

How do you handle this situation, I bring my mal to my cousins place, they are very affectionate over him and they also do commands with him “not in the right way” they like to play with him with the toy and give commands but I feel bad telling them that that’s not the right way teaching my dog. So they play with him and take turns doing commands. But I do not like them to play with him because it would destroy his structure on obedience. Sometimes I will leave him in one room so they cant play.

How can I teach a 3 year old dog to enter a train, while you have a very limited time with train coming to the station and leaving in 2 min.

Thank you for your answer.

Allie

How do you go about demand barking? I have tried the ignore until you’re quiet technique and the ‘quiet’ command. Both work momentarily but it hasn’t fully stopped her from whining/barking for my attention or for something she wants. She seems to do it sporadically too. Thank you!

Hi robert, how do i get my dog to walk close to me when it is off the leash?

Using E collar for the last 10 months now very little and always low stim with 80% success for reactivity and over protection in the city at night with people that have a abnormal gate or are staring at him. In close quarters, narrow hallway it’s difficult to keep a fully loose leash in case he lunge’s. Can’t do a 180, halfway is 5ft.wide. Should I stim when seeing an approaching person to preempt or is this the same as a tight leash pop? Lab/Amstaff mix 75lbs. I am 72 w physical issues. THX

Hey Robert, this is a bit off topic but i want to encourage anyone to stop the Bill 1901. In germany we can not even train our hunting and schutzhunde properly. The police K9 staff recently said that they have to stop training „diensthunde“ because they can not control them and things get out of hand quickly, so they stopped training and won‘t get other dogs under these circumstances. Dogs in action have prawn collars on when there are soccer games or demonstrations, now the dogs won‘t be used.

Marley (1 year old belgian malinois) recently started sailing with us. We have a pee pad for him that he will occasionally use, but he holds he’s pee for so long hoping we’ll get off the boat soon that he has injured his bladder showing signs of pee in his blood (confirmed by the vet, its not an infection, just injured!). He will drink water all day but not pee for +24hrs! When he does we encourage and reward him but still he refuses to use it often as he should/needs to. Any advice?!
