Here are today’s Q&A

Hi Robert. Few weeks ago you really helped me understand my GSD problem with leash/dog aggression. However(there is always however),there is this one stafford that’s really hyperactive. My GSD is doing great with other dogs but when he particularly plays with that dog ,they trigger each other and there is some rough game .They are not killing each other but growling and nipping each other’s fur. Easiest way is to put on the leash and stop the game, but is there something I can do to prevent that?

Hello Robert, I am training my Mal to be off-leash proof, he is a 7 month old puppy and so far doing good with long lines and recalls and wanted to transition him to the e-collar would it be ok for him to be transitioned now? any advice?

Hey Robert, started taking my 4 month old GSD outside in a public park with some distractions around early mornings. He is 85% of the time responsive to engagement and recall but wont take a treat. So I get the desired good behaviour but unable to reward it and he goes back out and about to explore. Same for loose leash walking . What do I do? Find better treats or maybe his favorite fetch/tug toy? Apologies for the biweekly submissions and thanks for helping out.

2 year old GSD/boxer mix, she is the best family dog ever, sweet as can be with her humans and fellow family dogs (we have 3 total).

She does however have a big issue, when we are with other dogs, like at the dog park or…she has a tendency to practice splitting : if 2 dogs are being too rough she gets anxiety and try to split them up sometimes aggressively, she has injured other dogs doing so. We got her at 5 months as a rescue and suspect she has not been properly socialized as a pup.

Good day Robert, when i train my 1 yr 4 month old Mal using dog treats as rewards, he isn’t as snappy in executing the commands as compared to when i use a ball. I’ve tried releasing him as soon as he does the command when using treats, but it’s still sluggish. The problem with using a ball always is he is too eager to get the reward that he’ll execute the command so fast that half of the time they’re not as correct as I want them to be. Is there a way to balance it? Thank you and God bless

I have a 12 week old Belgian Malinois that is an awesome dog. (Thanks to your teachings) I heard you mention a few times in the videos not to spend too much time with your puppy it will “make them neurotic”. Being retired I don’t want to over do it with the puppy. How much time is too much? By the way we also have a Toy Yorkie and I completely understood your comment. Thank You

Hi Robert, recently I came across the idea of Structural Walk as a bonding exercise with your dog. It seems to be a good idea and I was thinking of implementing that into our day. I am curious what your opinion is, does it strengthen the bond or more bonding will be other activities we do, like play or training or just regular walk. As always, thanks for this page, I am learning a lot and my puppy is learning a lot too.

My 1 year old, German Shepherd (Allie) suffers from anxiety while in the car, during fireworks, thunderstorms & when bathe her at Coastal Farms. It bothers me when seeing her so anxious. How do you feel about CBD oils and or treats? Have you ever given your dogs CBD oil or treats? What are some ways to help my 1 year old German Shepard during these moments not be so anxious? Thank you for taking the time to educate us, on ways to give our dogs the best lives possible .

19 week pup heel walks well inside so no slip lead pressure has been needed inside. I’ve tried for weeks to teach him lead pressure in my lowest distraction environment – my patio. As soon as we are outside, he fights me on the slip lead by biting on it and thrashing whenever he feels a correction. I can’t imagine how I will ever progress to a real world loose leash walk. I feel like a failure for not being able to teach him heel walking even in the calmest outdoor scenario. Do you have advice?

Hi, we have a new rescue 3 yr old Malinois. I have been using your attention method by placing treats in both hands and holding them out to the side until he looks at me. Sometimes he does not gently take the treat and will nip your finger. I am trying to make him wait and I tell him, “ easy” before giving the reward. Will this mess up the attention exercise? Should I instead have another session to teach “easy”? Thanks a ton!
