Hello Robert and Janet.. i love you guys, you remind me of my father 🤷😁 i would really want to know when i can take my 5 months old Mal to 3h hike? I have a hut in the mountains and we would be there for 2 days..if that is too long hike for her i would even carry her..we would start first 1,5 hour and rest and then to continue the hut..is that too much? Please advice and sorry for my bad english.

Best regards,  Mitja

10 week old puppy. She’s very smart and easy to get the basics. However, one thing that I have been trying to get her to do is luring her but whenever I try to, she jumps and bites at my hand. She won’t follow it. But when it comes to down and come and sit, she accepts the treats just fine. Any solutions?

Hello Robert, thanks for a fantastic dog training website. I now have a 16 month Lab retriever who I got when he was 7 months old. Had no prior training at all. He is largely very obedient and has a lovely personality. No aggression. Often when he is off leash he will come when called by dog whistle but then he suddenly takes off and I can blow the whistle as hard and as much as I like and he will totally ignore the recall. Could this be because he still has his testicles? I’m really worried.

When I started out training I completed several force free training programmes (e.g. Susan Garrett, Absolute Dogs). I loved them but reached a point (the prey drive) where I wasn’t able to progress and then switched to e-collar to strengthen the recall. My question is how do these trainers achieve their control force free, or do you think the claims of such programmes are false? They do sometimes show videos of their dogs in the real world but do you think these snippets are the full truth?

Hello, Robert. When I am training my dog – he is 5 years old middle poodle – before I can say or show the new command, he sits down. Today I wanted to train the perfect down, but he does not stays, he just sits down and waits. How can I fix this 🤔? Thx, Lea

Hi Robert and Janet,  I’ve got a frustration issue with my 1 yo mal when I walk him with my husband. We noticed that he can’t stand my husband (or me) getting too far, he starts to whine and freaks out. He won’t lunge, but constant whining, heavy panting, and barking if the distance is increased. He won’t bite his tug. I’ve tried treats, but his frustration is still here. He’s great with self control otherwise, with toys and food, has great focus and nice obedience. Any advice ?

Robert,  Is it beneficial or negative to return a puppy to its mother at 8 weeks for a week or two to learn things it may have missed having been taken at 7weeks?  The puppy is a GSD from a good breeder, the fault lies in myself for bring over pushy & taking the puppy at what i thought was 8 weeks but was actually 7, overall the dog is going well, however he is extremely hesitant around new situations and cannot be without myself or my partner, becomes destructive and whines.

Regards, Juan.

My 13mnth old GSD(M) started meeting 11 wk old Gsd(M) at our place. He also sometimes gets 2 meet bt from behind a gate a 2yr old Beagle(F) on our walks. My dog is reactive in the sense all he wants to meet a dog he sees pulls, lunges etc. I dont let him obviously except with these 2 mentioned. It’s difficult 2 hold his attention during these meets and we are far from obedience still. How do I progress? Another thing is he has an obsession with their ears & nips at them. How best to correct that

Online I sometimes see trainers take on LGD’s to fix their aggression issues in public places. Personally, when I see that it hurts a little inside because having a LGD myself, I feel like it’s not fair to the dog to put them in a city and make them behave like a regular pet dog. Maybe I’m just misunderstanding things but what are your thoughts on this? I just don’t feel like it’s fair to squash that drive that the dog has been bred to have just because someone wants it to live in the city.

My 10-month-old Malinois is reacting aggressively towards our one cat and two guinea pigs. The pigs are always in the cage we had one mishap that was all my fault. Fast thinking and acting from my daughter and I made this, not the nightmare it could have been. Now he will run and bark at the cage, I correct but it never seems to dissuade him.

We have three cats, he gets along with two of them. My one large male cat and my pup have issues. Both act shady around each other, feeding the escalation.
