Hi everyone I hope you are all fine.

This thing happened this week, I don’t have visitors and outside my girl is shy and ignores people, but this week someone knocked on my door and she was all out, fluff and teeth out, she launched to her toys and did all the aggressive things she could. (Posing mal)

I told her place she left for her kennel but I think she was scared she didn’t launch at the door is there a way for her to be more at ease?

I just need calm and I can take her to the Kennel for safety but that thing she did can re direct, and I was really by surprise

Thanks for all your help

Hi Robert and Janet! I have come to develop my awesome Malinois’s personality from start. I would like to develop her confidence more so in tense situations. From the very start, I have taken her into a variety of scenarios, include breweries, hiking, standing in front of big box stores, anything, you name it! Though, when we take our late night walks by cars and bars her ears are tipped back. I would really love to train her to be calm in all environments, and I spend a lot of time making her feel relaxed. Bikes, skateboards, runners, no problem. How can I build confidence in the nightlife?

Hi Robert, I just bought my malinois, he seems scared and skittish to go outside along with refusal to walk on leash while I hold it. The breeder had never leashes or collared his litter. He’ll walk fine with out it but the second I pick up the leash handle he’ll sit and look at me and attempt to slip is collar off. I understand the curious puppy but he only seems interested in all the distractions. The breeders kept him inside unless let out to their backyard. What advice do you have to correct this behavior?

My 4 1/2 month old Labrador puppy loves meeting new people, but even though she is on a leash, she jumps up and down and gets so excited. It’s great that she is so friendly, but I want her to not scare or hurt people. What is the best way to handle this?

Thank you for the last question I asked. I’ve been studying and working with Juno (GSD) on your tug videos you mentioned and she absolutely loves it . My next question is I currently own the Educator e collar. I’ve been using the videos you made about using it on my self to learn timing etc. What is an appropriate age to start a dog on this tool. Juno will be six months soon and I understand her needing to know the basics before hand and Before reinforcing that training with an E-Collar. Would it be ok to start at 6 months or do you recommend older for a better result due to maturity?

Hi Robert & Janet, hope all is well with you and the pack. Robert I was hoping you could expound on the differences between dominant and fear aggression, different signs to look for. You had a video years ago explaining I think at a shelter, I think you were on a break. Can’t find it. One difference you indicated was that the dog would be good with a strong owner but would not comply with others. It was an old video as your hair was a tinge darker.

Hi, I have an 11 month old male Malinois who has a lovely temperament.

The issue we’re having is that he has growled and tried to bite me on 2 occasions.

The first time I had put him into his crate , which he’ll happily go into, I put my finger through the bars, said ‘good boy’ and he snapped.

The second time I was in a chair beside him, he was again in his crate, and the same thing happened.

He has never shown any aggression at any other time.

He is fed in his crate.

So I’m thinking this is something to do with the crate ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

June.

Hi to the Cabrals! I currently have Harpo(GSD)getting used to her new e-collar.I used a pinch with a small ‘Y’ shaped leash for safety/backup in case I or the pinch collar fails. What collar or leash should I use as a backup? I know not to use the pinch with the e-collar. Should I use a slip collar or Martingale? In her adult life, she lunged only once unexpectedly, injuring my head. It’s more for my peace of mind; I’m OCD over it checking her pinch numerous times during our walks.I bought the P3000 with the extender, ended up with 2 e- collars $1100+;I need a backup for my peace of mind.

Hi Robert, I’ve got a 2 & a half year old G.S.D that goes crazy whenever in the car, barking and lunges at everything we pass…

Hi. I have a question. I don’t really understand why you correct displacement behavior which is sniffing the ground at the presence of other dogs. I thought it was good that my dog offers different behaviors instead of reacting. He chooses either to engage with me or sniff the ground. Why is it not okay? Thank you

After the 3-5 day span of no ecollar use when introducing the collar to the dog. After the 1st couple training sessions should I continue to keep the collar on the dog for 6-8 hours a day, everyday or is it good to take it off every couple days. I want to avoid my dog making any association with the ecollar or to be what you call “Collar Smart”. Another question, do you know any information on training a dog to become a Diabetic Alert Dog or anything I can search up to get started. I would like to get the proper information about this before getting started. Thanks!

Hello Robert,  I have four dogs (1 senior dog, 1 adult dog and 2 Belgian malinois puppies) and am spending about $500-$600 a month on their food so would love to see if I could save some money by cooking their own meals. Right now I’m feeding them half kibble and half Just Food For Dogs. I noticed that you have some recipes on your site and was just wondering if I could use those recipes for puppies? Or, do you have another recipe that you recommend for belgian malinois puppies?

Hi Robert/hi Janet. Toby is doing great at IGP. Learning to bark on demands and bite & release. The issue is at home. He wants to go out, so I open doors to let him out. But he is half out, standing up on two legs and punching the door back to me to keep it open, barks at me with excitement. It can be intimidating but I turn around face the other way. Is he demanding me to come out? Or confused with IGP training? What is wrong with him? Grace

Hello Mr. Cabral, I am enjoying your videos and using them to train my cattle dog, german, dutch shepherd, chow chow, lab mix. She will be 5 months old on April 1st. and about 20lb. How do I get her to learn to get along with my 7lb Papillon and Pomeranian? On Sunday, you told me to crate her, which I do. You also mentioned to me that saying leave it and standing in front of her only frustrates her more. What is a training technique to get her to stop and get along with the other two? Thank you in advance for your help.

Robert has scoffed at training huskies in the past. I would love to see him interview a musher. Ivan interviewed Dallas Seavey about giving commands from 100’ back of the dogs. I wish Robert would do the same!

Dear R&J, Harpo, my GSD has been heeling much better with a loose leash but I can’t get her to do is look at me.Although very food motivated during obedience, during our walks, she refuses treats/toys.She’ll glance at me occasionally so I’ll praise her when she does.I praise her; tried high quality foods, spit it out to her while walking but as soon as she catches it, she’ll continue to look straight ahead. I only do this at night walks but I hang a unsliced hotdog out of my mouth.I give her a little piece from the end everything she looks at me.I end up eating most of it.Please help us!

Hello Robert, How will I know when my puppy is done with her crate training? She is running into the crate without being asked after I take her out to the bathroom and she is sleeping through the night in the crate. The only time she is still crying/barking is when I leave go outside to take my older dogs out and when I leave my house to go pick up my brother from work, which my older dogs do as well. Other, then that, she seems to be understanding the concept.

Thanks, Vanessa

Hi Robert – when my pup (rat terrierX) was 12 wks old he was terrified by a large PB who ran up on us from behind (not at a dog park, but in a dog-friendly store- leashing required) The PB was a solid 100 lbs (mine was 2) It was rude & pushy, but only managed to snort on my dog before I could grab mine up. My dog is now terrified of other dogs. He is eight m/o & shakes/cowers/growls/barks when he’s around other dogs, even if they’re well-mannered. I haven’t pushed him to socialize, I didn’t want to inadvertently make it worse. Is it possible for a dog to overcome this fear & where do I start?

Christie

I have a 7mon old mal. She was 100% crate trained and content in her crate, often going into on her own to relax. We have a wired crate in kitchen for her daily needs And an impact crate in our bedroom for at night. She figured out how to get out of the wired crate. So when we leave we put her in the impact crate. Now she freaks out, barks, digs,Drools, bites at the walls. I’m scared she will damage her teeth! Crazy enough at night, she runs right to that crate sleeps all night. Not sure if it’s the bedroom or her new knowledge of escape, Should I try another kind of crate in Kitchen or fix issue
