Hi Robert, I just received my Chameleon III-B today. I haven’t started training yet, Im still watching all your videos and getting comfortable with the collar, and remote features. What are your thoughts on using the tone and vibration setting vs stim? Would it be confusing to my dog to use that way instead of stim? All your videos seem to use the stim but the vibration and tone seemed like a good feature too so I wanted to ask. And do you have any videos on using the remote, finger kick, and app features for this device? Like an intro/getting started video. Thank you so much for all your help

Hello my 4 month old Malinois goes into the crate without a problem just about every time but when we leave the room to do anything he whines or barks how would I correct that. I do give her rewards for being in crate to make It a happy place, also when he is in the crate and my cat meows he looses It and barks non stop( doesn’t matter if I have cat upstairs in a room) it’s once he hears the sound. Not getting much sleep due to this please help. Thank you very much.

My husband and I have rescued 3 malinois over the past 2 years. Our most recent rescue is a 1 year old female who has been with us for 2 weeks. We rescued her from a high kill shelter in San Bernardino. She was very sickly, had fresh bite wounds from being kenneled with other dogs. Our vet feels that she was crated for long periods of time due to the condition of her feet and nails. She has integrated wonderfully into our pack and would like to know if it is to early to start re introducing crate training? Is there anything different we should do since she has had a bad experience with it? Thx

Hello Robert, My question may be a familiar one but I’ll ask anyway. My dog (17 months, Leonberger) has great attention when we are training but I loose her attention when I go to a trial ( Rally/obedience). We train in different places that offer distractions but when we are attending a trial I seem to lose her after the first few signs or commands. I know she is still young but I want to keep the attention we work so hard for. Thanks, Love your training style!

Hi, In the next 2-3 years I will be getting my next dog and am interested in a malinois. I’ve owned and trained dogs (collies, labs, spaniels) for 15 years. However I’m aware of the high drive and extra needs of a malinois compared to the dogs I’ve had before. As with all my dogs, there would be strong structure, regular obedience work, 2x 1 hour on and off lead walks each day and tug/play sessions. My question is if this enough to meet the needs of a malinois, or do they need to be doing bitework / protection training as well in order to keep them fulfilled? Thank you

Hi Robert. I hope you are doing well! Thank you for providing these awesome resources.i have a 8 month old Dachshund Chihuahua lab. Everything was going well until I started crate training. I’ve been working for weeks to get her comfortable but no matter what she freaks out when I put her in the crate. I am following the steps, keep the door open, lure her in with treats, praise her when she is inside. And ignore her when she comes out. I noticed if my husband puts her in and it’s just them in the house he sends me videos of her being calm but that’s not the case if I’m home. Please advise.

I have a 2 yr old Mal, adopted him at 4 months after being in 2 other homes before mine. In the beginning which I think was resource guarding he lashed out at my daughter and now she is afraid of him and will not interact with him at all. I joined your site and worked with a couple trainers to help. Basically an ultimatum was given to get rid of the dog, she doesn’t feel safe at home. We try super hard to keep them apart, when she is around he is away in his crate or elsewhere not around her. She is only home about 4 months a yr, away at University. Lot more to the story not enough words! Thx

Milo

Dear Robert,
Milo is a 7-month-old Belgian shepherd (Tervueren). He is very friendly and obedient, but he growls and shows teeth when we approach him as he eats. In response, I feed him by hand while petting him, and he has responded well to that. However, today my son was in charge and the puppy aggressively bit my son’s hand as he was petting him (while feeding him with his other hand). What should we do to make this aggressive and dangerous behavior disappear?
Thanks for your help!

I have a 8 month F GSD. I hate to say it but I am losing motivation with training, it doesn’t seem to matter how fun I am or level of reward I have, I can’t seem to get much engagement from my dog. I was wondering if an ecollar would be a good tool of communication in this case? Or would you only introduce it after solid engagement is in place?
P.S: she already knows most basic obedience commands and performs them without luring.

Hi Janet and Robert, first I want to thank you for your wisdom and insight during the recent cop-shooting-dog video. I know the people that benefited by your input far outnumbered the negatives. My question concerns Maggie’s recall. She is 99% on the money but I know I need 100%. The only time she is off leash is in the desert where it’s rough terrain.I can get her to stop, stay, sit, come. What I need is a command or method to keep her closer to me. Remember I’m 76 and she’s a 2 1/2yo GSD. That cop incident showed me that yelling “she’s friendly” may not cut it. Thank you for all you do.

Follow-up question on learning the “EASY” command.
I’m using a 15′ long line with slip chain collar on neighborhood walks with my 12 m/o Border Terrier. I need help teaching her the ‘EASY’ command.
How and when do I time the command and the correction? Do I wait until she is pulling? Do I give the command before she hits the end of the leash? Often if I give her a ‘pop’ she pauses, but then resumes pulling, especially when her drive is high.
I think my timing is off. Please detail how this command should be done.

Hey, I have a 4 year old GSD, we rescued her 6 weeks ago and has been reactive towards other dogs. We are working on getting her comfortable and building up our relationship however she is still reactive towards other dogs when out on a walk. She has a problem with redirecting her barking at us, we will get her into a sit and she will stay in a sit but continue barking towards us, even when the dog has passed. Is there a way to correct this behaviour? She was previously fixed with her reactivity in her last foster home but it has resurfaced coming into our home.
Any help appreciated!
thank you

My dogs and I drink filtered, reverse-osmosis water. Lately I’ve been learning about electrolytes and cell damage that can occur when essential minerals are taken from the water. Do you have any advice or resources you could point me toward to ensure my dogs are getting the essential nutrients they need? Found lots of websites, but struggling to find one with cited research/credentials to know if the recommendations are accurate. Thank you!
