Hey Robert! My name is Maria and i have a rescue dog since four months named Zeus. He is a Bull lurcher mix with trauma of many different home-solutions in a short time so he is very stressed outdoors looking and lounges at dogs with an aggression that seems to escalate. Since he redirected his aggression and bit me two times, i find it hard to relax on walks and making him feel calm 🙁 I tried to muzzle him but it makes him so angry/ he muzzlepunch etc.He walks perfectly behind me in the forest. I need your opinion on how to handle our walks, tool and leash wise? Thank u so much, Maria

Halo cabralians.

Today I was out tracking with my malinois, She is 11 days in to her heat cycle nr2, she lost concentration a few times.

With my huskys I haven’t really taken much consideration to dogs in heat during training/running

Just a bit carefulness when standing still.

I often run intact males next to females in heat without trouble.

It looks like I have to think very differently about how being in heat affects my malinois than I do with my huskys.

From now on there will be no difficult tracking for Mills before the heat cycle is done, just tracking for fun.

Am I thinking correctly?

Hi

Im doing obedience trails in Australia

Maggie is 3yo BC

Stand for examination here our dog stands with handler 1m in front. Judge approaches from side & examines.

Maggie I believe is a little fearful of people approaching & doing the exam.

Ive been practicing with different people, shes getting more confident.

Maggie will move her hind legs slightly as judge approaches.

? how do I approach correcting the leg movement. (As I believe this to be fear I’ve been reluctant to correct her) the more she is allowed to move slightly, this is what shes getting into the habit of doing.

Thank you

Tom

Hi, I have a male 4yr springer spaniel. No behavioral issues, well trained and a great relationship between us. He’s ecollar trained. He has a command called “check”, which is used when he’s off leash for him to come closer to me. No expectation to recall precisely to me, just reduce his distance away. My issue is that his natural off leash distance is sometimes too far away from me. I can always call him back, but I want to make him automatically reduce his walking distance away from me rather than over using the “check” command, or buzzing the ecollar all the time when he drifts away

Dear Robert,

I have a 19 month old wonderful German Shepard. What is the best method to train your dog to come to you off leash?

Took my 8 month labrador out today, before the walk we made a stop at the pet shop (You’re allowed to bring dogs inside) she was fine for the first 10 minutes, then she started barking at a couple of different people, I removed her from the situation and brought her outside the shop where I made her sit. Is there anything I should do to fix this?

I have an adult male Border Collie. When doing obedience is great but when doing ‘fun stuff’ (i.e. agility, tricks etc.) although he does everything he gets over excited & nips my thighs and high pitch barks. How do I discourage behaviour without him thinking he is doing the wrong actions? It’s his only vice but it drives me bananas. Doesn’t break skin but leaves bruises. Started after a break while I was recovering from an operation.

Again my Akita

We are solving problems with your advices but now I have weird issue. My Akita and me are training offleash heel in less crowded areas. Since I made her overly friendly towards people she loves people. When we offleash heel if people call my dog to come she just goes even with my no command. And yes they do that regularly here. She ignores everything when we work but If called she runs to them. I can keep her leashed but she still wants to go when people call her. I can correct her on leash but I prefer her not wanting to go to strangers, listen to them and take food they offer.

Hello Robert, I’ve watched all your videos on how to properly use an e-collar. I am mostly using the vibration stimulation and have used the shock a very small amount of times at level 2, this is where I saw my dog feel it. I’ve had it on for one week, took it off for a few days, and put it back on for another week. Today I discovered my dog has scabs/bumps exactly where the prongs were. I feel terrible. Was the collar too tight? Did I leave it on too long? What am I doing wrong? And how should I help heal them? Thank you.

2 year old doberman, very well trained, spent hundreds of hours training, good with people & other dogs, freak accident where he was running and rammed into me and i fell down on my back and the next thing i knew he was biting my leg and back when i was getting up. he had been on steroid medication for two months BUT he had been tittering down for at least 3 weeks and off of all medication for 1 week before this happened. Maybe contributed alittle in perfect storm. Do you know of any trainers in the Denver area or US that you can refer to me to address this situation. i only want the best.

I have recently got a 10 month old dutch shepherd who has had zero training prior to me. He was desexed prior to coming to me. He is very mouthy and jumps everywhere, his prey drive is through the roof. I am experienced with the breed but have only had them from blank slate puppies previously. He struggles to lure with food. Will it just take longer to retrain out of the bad habits or is there something else I should be doing because he’s a bit older? He really wants to please but doesn’t know what the right things to do are…please help!

Ryan

Could you explain more about the littermate issue someone asked last week? Why is it that littermates don’t get along very well? What is the problem exactly? Is there any way of fixing it beyond staying alert 100% of the time?

Jack

Howdy, Robert & Janet!

I’m having difficulty teaching the EASY command to my 12 m/o female Border Terrier.

She is a skittish, nervous BT, but loves to go for walks and meet new people & dogs or chase a squirrel. As a result she often pulls or lunges on the leash.

I think my timing with the EASY command is off. And I’m not sure when exactly to give her a correction. Slip chain or Martingale, neither seem to give her much more than a momentary pause and then she’s right back to pulling. Can you explain the timing of the EASY command and how to deliver a useful correction?

Thanks,

Jack

I have taught my 18 mo male GSD the center command, so it will be easier to put his leash on or what ever. He preforms it flawlessly at home. When away from home, he will continue through my legs, turn around, face me and set. I have try to stop him at the correct point and tell him to set That didn’t work. He is pray motivated.

Hi Robert,I have a 13 week old GSD This is the first puppy I experienced that constantly jumps. At 9 weeks he jumped out of pen. He is forever jumping up to counter to get food especially while I prepare it. Or if I am cooking. I do keep leash on him while he is out of crate but he is a quick little bugger. Not sure where correction is permitted because he is young. He also trash dives the minute I open the trash cabinet. And nose dives my food bowl. I currently say no off and pull down on leash but he is very determined. Any suggestions I am afraid what will happen when he gets bigger. Thanku
