I have a 3 year old intact male. He has behaviors I don’t understand and don’t know how to change. my house was broken into when he was 6 months old. He attacked the man, who grabbed him by the neck and started choking him. The man eventually fled, but the dog has never been the same. He won’t let anyone near me, period, and he doesn’t care to be touched, not even by me. He is obedient until faced with a person in my vicinity. He is playful with others if I”m not present but not touching.

I have a 12 weeks old Belgian malinois.

1. What’s the best food I can give it for good/healthy growth?

2. When I am training my puppy and I give it sausage (like in hotdog) pieces, is that good/healthy?

Luna the 7 mont old pup has a thing for any kind of wood it seems she thinks it is a treat.when I take her out to do her business she constantly has her nose to the ground and snathes up anything that resembles a twig or branch I am concerned that this my hurt her gut.

Our 3 yr old foster Doberman is high drive and easily excitable. Structure is helping him immensely. We do not have a fenced yard, so we take many walks a day. When he sees me with the leash he gets very excited and it is difficult to put a collar on him, especially the prong collar. He is so excited that he can’t hold a sit or a down, and without the collar on him, I can’t correct him. I will just stand there for a few minutes waiting for him to calm down- it doesn’t help. What else can I do?

I bought a longer platform to train positions for my Bully (he is 120 lbs) the klimb was short length wise. I noticed on the new platform his stand is not correct. His back legs do not go out far enough from a sit to stand. From a down to stand he is fine. Should I correct his legs back to fix this? A touch to the tummy doesn’t do much. Ive been using a little more force with my arm under his groin to lift him back. I use a verbal no before the physical correction. Hoping he catches on

Hi Robert, thank you for your videos. They are extremely helpful in training my 9 1/2 week old Labrador puppy but my question is how do I stop her from pawing at my hand when I am teaching her a down position? She takes the treat gently, but likes putting her paw on my hand during down. I have tough hands but her claws do end up scratching quite a lot, which is worse for when my wife trains her. Do I just push through or correct her? She isn’t food aggressive, but very food driven.

I have an 8MO Vizsla puppy. I allowed her to play a lot with other dogs when she was younger, now she can’t ignore them. My mistake. Now, instead of playing, we’re doing obedience drills in the morning with another owner and her Doberman; this is after a 30-min walk. My question is: Fridays we used to do a play date at noon with other Vizslas. Should I suspend those too, or is a weekly play date okay?

Dear Robert, I loved your recommendations in the video about the best gifts for dogs in 2020. In that video, you recommend a slat mill and mentioned that treadmills are unsafe. You mentioned you would be making a follow up video on this topic, but I was unable to find any. Why are slat mills safer than treadmills and what does a potential purchaser need to know?

I try to self train my puppy. She is 3months malinois that will get over excited while playing and running to me for a hard toe bite , sometimes jump up to bite my butt . I want to ask you what can i do at this age ?

I tell her No , when she lets go of my feet (which is normally take 5-10 seconds to let go after command) I’ll give her a treat . Two minutes later , she’ll do that again .Do I need to repeat that ‘No” over and over again ? When will she learn that she should not do that behaviour

Do you feel that medication is the correct way to go to aid in a dogs excitement and focus? Also to help calm when nothing else naturewise has helped? Thank you!

Your lesson aggressive Mal/Dutchie training you opined that reactivity is displaced prey drive. It thus follows that the higher a dog’s prey drive the higher its reactivity. This is backed up by your opinion that (prey) drive is like water filled in a balloon: if you squeeze on one side of the balloon water goes to the other side….High prey drive just rear its head in reactivity? Very insightful indeed.

My trainer says that face to face with a dog is always a conflict. Is that true?

My GSD male is now 9 months old. How long should his down i.e. implied stay and place command last? We started on the ecollar but have used it so far for the “leave it” command and started training for the recall using it. Should I start using it for when he breaks his down and or place? Can it confuse him? Because when the stim happens with the Here command he is supposed to leave everything and run up to me. Granted the commands are diff how do I better explain to him he has to do 2 different things.

Hi Robert, Your advice is invaluable and thanks for all the work you put in. I have been working my Catahoula on detection, using the advice you gave a few weeks ago.I wanted to know if and how to train the dog’s alert. As always your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks again!

Hi Robert. I have a 3 year old Rotty with a good base of obedience. I am a new member to your website and would like to get more into advanced obedience. My question is – Is there a proper way to train multiple obedience commands in one training session? Is there a more efficient way to link different commands which helps the dog. At the moment I just do a bunch of commands usually at random like sit, place, finish, heel. I often feel like I’m just teaching commands with no end goal.

Hey Robert, have you ever had another off-leash dog be aggressive to one of yours and if so what do you usually do in that situation? Our neighbor’s white shepherd grabbed my Mal, Loki by the neck when my girlfriend was playing with him in the field. His mouth got stuck in Loki’s prong which eventually broke off but he wouldn’t let go even after. My girlfriend was horrified and I was very mad when she told me. He has a couple scabs but nothing too bad. Loki didn’t react back at him thankfully.
