One thing I do is take beef liver and dehydrate it in a dehydrator and make liver jerky for training treats. All the dogs love it! Be sure it is completely dry and it can be stored in a canister. I do 2-1 lb packages each time and it last for a month or longer.

    1. Rinse liver and pat dry with paper towel

    2. Pound flat

    3. Use kitchen scissors to cut into strips

    4. Single layer on dehydrator shelves

    5. Set temp to med-high. I rotate the shelves every 4-5 hours or so. It will take a couple of days to dehydrate.

    6. The pieces will become hard (brittle). When this happens pick a few pieces (remember which ones they were) and weigh them. Put them back on the tray for a few hours and weigh the exact same pieces. If the weight still went down they are not ready, if the weight remained the same (within the tolerance of the scale) they are done.

    7. Break pieces into bite size and put in an airtight container. Store at room temp.

Thank you Riggan for such a great explanation. It was an open-ended question for sure. It was new for me to see this happening so I wondered how it effected the dogs. There sure are a lot of angles and I appreciate you taking the time for each one.

I was so glad when I heard Robert say that his dogs were not spay/neutered (I think he has all boys, but in any case). I’ve never been a big fan of it and everyone around me says I should get Aoxo neutered. My pup is still only 8 months old, so what have been people expecting from him? I’m pretty sure Aoxo will continue to mature without messing with his hormones, but with Roberts training, Aoxo will already sitz, steh, platz, look, through (between leg heel), and walk on leash without pulling. He will even steh now with me being about a foot away and will remain in that position while I walk into another room and come back to him. It’s sad to say, but I don’t trust vets. Everyone I’ve been to is all about adding on services not looking at what’s best for our pups, so do your homework ahead of time so you can ask more detailed questions.

I’m with you Josh. Your wrott is soooo cute. I had one back in the 90’s and he died of cancer growths. That was such a tough time. Sam was his name and he was trained with a K9 team, so he though he was bad a$$. I know feed my pup a raw organic diet and make all his treats. I also don’t use flea medicine, and the vet continues to push it.
