So sorry to hear your loss. My heartfelt condolences to both of you Janet and Robert. I have just listened to your podcast about loss of a pet a couple of days ago. 😢

thank you for the video @alin
@bill your reply is gold!
I have trained my dog the down in motion and also the platz command. i have also tried testing this on a decoy that’s a far from me where i released my dog to go and bite, and midway have him stop and come back to me.
As i have mentioned, i have zero access to trainers in my area. so what i did was to be able to control my dog to let go of the bite first, which is somewhat of a precaution if ever something goes sideways. But then a trainer i saw said NOT to teach the let go first so the dog would develop a solid bite, as it wont be anticipating the let go command. can you clarify this for me?
for now this is how i’m doing my training:
1. do bite work on a tug toy and next on a bite wedge/pillow where i only show “weakness” and give in when he shows a forward bite not on a tugging bite.
2. on a separate training session, i ask a decoy, no sleeves, to approach us, while my dog is on a leash and harness, and act threatening. but i do not release the dog. This part of the training, is where im studying how to do the question i raised. And i will try the method you suggested @bill either the pltaz/down or the moving away and re-approach.
I will update you on my progress Thank you very much for your time. -

this happened to me once when my mal was around 3 months old. i was feeding him, didn’t leave his side, when i noticed some food was on the floor, i tried to pick it up and put it in his bowl. he growled. i grabbed his scruff and firmly said NO! he stopped. so i praised him and let him continue eating. i slowly reached inside his bowl again to test him, he was okay after that.
i don’t know if what i did is correct or not but it did the work for my mal’s situation at that particular time. -
may i ask what amount of percentage of your dog’s current/ideal weight for specific age and activity do you follow/suggest?
my malinois who is trained 2-3x a day and walks/runs a total of 45-60mins a day weighs around 65lbs and his height is 26 inches. i give him a total of 2.6lbs of raw food a day. he doesn’t look thin or over weight. i’m just wondering if this is too much/little for him. -
thanks @alin
i was hoping to be able to learn from here. maybe post videos of the steps i’m doing and have someone (an expert) analyze and make corrections.
