@ronindog @stella2926 thanks so much for your input! Stella what is the difference with wellness complete large breed? My vet said since rhe had the runs for so long on kibbel, it was probably an intolerance to chicken as opposed to grain. The food is have is from their “sub zero” ie high line of food and is not specifically “puppy food”. I just go by the puppy age portion. I add the rice because I then at least control the grains he is getting snd know there’s no extra crap in there! Just wasn’t sure if or when to phase it out. Sounds like I shouldn’t for a bit.

Ya was thinking of taking him to an area with kids like just outside a park but then I wasn’t sure if that would just scare him snd send him over the edge in terms of excitement (we are already working hard on focus outside).
That’s awful re slapping your dog and people (parents) should know better. I don’t think Hugo had a particularly bad experience except he was very overwhelmed when he first met my niece/nephew (a bunch of people had come over at once – I wasn’t there as he was being puppysat). I was told he ran under the table with his tail between his legs. He eventually was ok with them (off leash).

This is awesome! Thanks, Bill!! We already play “find it”’so I’ll just amplify and expand as you suggest.

Sounds like the man just likes to be left to sleep in peace! I don’t blame him. I’m super grumpy when someone wakes me up mid sleep too 🤣. My senior doggo (now almost 12) has always been like this. I don’t mind, I find it endearing.

At twelve weeks your pup is still a baby with no little to no attention span. At most, I would use a verbal correction like “oops” in a cheery and upbeat way. Or put the pup gently into the position you want if they don’t do it (provided you have adequately taught the command and the pup knows it). Then lavish with praise and treats!!Any correction beyond that is unfair to a small puppy in my opinion.

I would love some advice on this too. Hugo was doing very well with crate training until I accidentally shut the crate door on his tail 🙁 since then he won’t go into the crate at night (sleeps in a bed) & will only reluctantly go in in the day with HV treats. Every time I have to leave him in there he’s hysterical. Now I’m basically starting at the beginning but it’s not really working.

Foods I tried to give Hugo the first week I brought him home as treats (like little hotdogs), he ignored/rejected. Now he would DEVOUR them.

Ie Teach her that just because she brings you the toy, it doesn’t mean the game is over. I also have a cue (I say cue not command because he doesn’t need to do anything) the second play, training, or food is finsibed. I say “all finished” and that way Hugo knows it’s over. Once I say that, I absolutely never let him continue the game. Eventually he gets bored.

I think this makes sense and this is what my vet said. There is nothing wrong with grain free but for some dogs they need the grain in order to process the other acids and fats in meat or whatever else is in the food. He said most allergies are to protein not grain. There is nothing wrong with grain but it’s less valuable calories (same as for a human), especially empty white carbs. For now I’m just using the race as a filler because he keeps having consistent diarrhoea. I also think for that reason I am going to have to switch back to grain food because his stools are not getting any harder…
